Had Pre-Marital Sex? Sorry, You Can’t Be A Republican

If you're promoting traditional marriage, and homosexuality is wrong - don't get caught in a homosexual sex scandal.
If they're engaging in homosexual sex, maybe they shouldn't be campaigning on a platform that homosexuality is wrong in the first place. Just a thought.

Probably not intentional but it does support the subconcious concept in politicas not of "Do no wrong." but "Don't get caught.".

"Before you can join the Laurens County Republican Party in South Carolina and get on the primary ballot, they ask that you pledge that you’ve never ever had pre-marital sex — and that you will never ever look at porn again.
what do they base this bizarre membership requirement on anyway?

I like the idea of holding leaders, anyone who is going to be looked up to, to a somewhat higher standard - I expect more out of them. I have no problem expecting them to be above reproach, husband of one wife (faithful in his marriage), self-control, lives wisely, good reputation, teachable, not addicted to alcohol, gentle, loves peace, not greedy, manages his home well, well-mannered children, not arrogant - all good traits to when you are in a leadership position, imo. And if you are a representative of a particular political party, I expect you to live up to what you preach. If you're promoting traditional marriage, and homosexuality is wrong - don't get caught in a homosexual sex scandal. Common sense stuff like that I guess :) If we don't expect more and/or higher moral standards from our leadership, how can we expect it from their followers? Anyone can see our country has gone downhill morally over the last few decades (and I am NOT referring to any one moral thing, just in a general sense). It's time we start demanding better behavior from our leaders, at least while they are in office, but I prefer we put people with a high sense of integrity, who are honorable, and have a good reputation before leadership in office, preferably, sadly they are hard to come by these days.

Except that it's arbitrary nonsense rather than "higher standards". How exactly does sex before marriage, or porn affect ones ability to lead? It's voodoo magic nonsense that has no place in modern governments.

Last Tuesday, the LCGOP unanimously adopted a resolution that would ask all candidates who want to get on the primary ballot to sign a pledge with 28 principles, because the party “does not want to associate with candidates who do not act and speak in a manner that is consistent with the SC Republican Party Platform.”

So, the question is, Is the Laurens County Republican Party filled with ugly people or liars?

I see great cause for hope in this. If some progressive organisation could just get marriage outlawed then the Republican Party would be gone in a generation!

Homosexuality is not a crime and our representatives have the right to choose thier mate as they see fit. This is not a theocracy.

We the people are not followers, we are the authority according to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. It's Congresses duty to implement the will of the people, not the other way around as most elected officials see it today.

You completely missed my point. If you're gay, it's silly to run for any position on the conservative side since majority of conservatives are against homosexuality. However don't claim to be against it and then live it in secret, that's wrong and deceptive. And it makes a mockery of all you claimed to stand for, which I believed and voted you in based on. People can choose whoever they want, just don't lie about it.

We the people are the ones who put them in office. We can hold them to whatever standards we want.

Well hopefully not. But we've seen that some do.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.

Wait a minute - I know several gay Republicans, who are active in the local Republican organizations.

Things be strange.

Violet.
All this will do is oust the HONEST candidates who may actually be qualified to run.

All the lying politicians won't even bat an eyelash at it.
They'll say what they have to, to get elected.
Business as usual.

It's sure to bring some puritanical loonies out of the woodwork as well.

'
It's nothing more than another 'play'
for the sake of 'casting a spell' on a 'morally impressionable' voting block.

I didn't say there couldn't be. I was referring to those who run for political positions with a stance against it and then are later caught in a homosexual relationship or act.

You think so? I really don't think.
There aren't any other third parties that would stand as much of a chance. I don't say it because I identify with them, but because if they completely split from the Republican party they are probably the only ones that could become the third party because they can draw votes from people on both sides and moderates. However because politics is a sport for the wealthy, it would probably also take a degree of corporate and executive backing to pump the funds into campaigns the other two parties can.

As I recall, numerous studies conducted over decades have all indicated that about 90% of married couples practiced pre-marital sex. Only one in ten couples didn't. So that leaves the Republicans with a huge population to draw from for membership in their party.

How many of those one in ten lied?

Ninety percent lol
I agree that's a bit low, for those in the USA anyway.
"The vast majority of Americans have sex before marriage, including those who abstained from sex during their teenage years, according to “Trends in Premarital Sex in the United States, 1954–2003,” by Lawrence B. Finer, published in the January/February 2007 issue of Public Health Reports. Further, contrary to the public perception that premarital sex is much more common now than in the past, the study shows that even among women who were born in the 1940s, nearly nine in 10 had sex before marriage.

The new study uses data from several rounds of the federal National Survey of Family Growth to examine sexual behavior before marriage, and how it has changed over time. According to the analysis, by age 44, 99% of respondents had had sex, and 95% had done so before marriage. Even among those who abstained from sex until age 20 or older, 81% had had premarital sex by age 44.
