Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

This means, of course, that those who were there from the plant were paid to be there just like in Communist and Fascist countries.

And to answer an obvious talking point - yes this is done for other people attending the plant.

But the salient point is that the crowd was made up of many who were paid to be there and could have been there only for the money. And I hope they do the same if a Democratic presidential candidate happens to visit.

You can take VTO (voluntary time off) excused or use a vacation day, but not get overtime pay for the next day, you will get your regular pay since it might fall below the 40 hour threshold.

It seems the title of the thread and some media outlets are making much more of this than it really is. I personally have had opportunities at my places of employment over the years for VTO for various reasons including offsite company parties. Obviously if your overall hours go below the overtime threshold then why should you get O.T.?

    Was it for political rallies?

How about everyone who wants to attend a political rally is able to do so, but they have to use their own personal time?

Some of us were given the opportunity for VTO (excused and non-paid) or could use a vacation or pto day to attend a visit from Obama in a nearby town a number of years ago, not seeing what the big deal is.

Yet if this were to occur at a rally for a dem, you would be squealing in outrage.

    Perhaps I'm missing something.
Could the people who didn't want to go to the Trump rally just go to work as usual, and get paid as usual?

It doesn't sound like that's the case.
The company paid people to go, and docked the wages of people who didn't.

    Maybe I'm misunderstanding something.

Why would anyone care about a coworker attending a political rally if it didn't affect them. I don't think they would.

A lot of unions do that. I thought this would be something unusual or unique about it.

It was during work hours, correct ? These workers sell their time to their employer, correct ? They employer determines how they use that time, correct ?

So you have absolutely no beef. Just like in communist countries.

A tiny tempest in a tea pot. The employer could have cancelled work and thus pay for the entire plant. They allowed them to get their regular pay without having to work at their job. Very generous, just like in communist countries.

How many in the crowd were at work, getting paid, and attended the rally ?

What difference does it make to you if their employer paid them on their work day, and they attended a rally ?

Unless he gave them a raise the going rate is 50.00
Trump’s campaign had hired actors to attend Trump’s announcement event held at Trump Tower on June 16 and Donald Trump’s team denied this? I’m sure you will be shocked to learn that it’s true. Yes, an FEC document confirmed it.

I trust that all the people who complain about "compelled speech" in the workplace when it comes to using people's preferred pronouns will be just as vocal in condemning this compelled speech.

I assume they would as it is a PR exercise for the plant. The bosses don't want the company to look bad in the media or in front of a powerful politician who may make decisions that affect them.

Offering employees overtime to attend such a thing seems fair enough. Getting them to attend a company PR exercise for free seems a lot worse to me.

Well, if they throw in lunch and free beer, it sounds like a deal. After all, I'd probably need a few beers to get the required numbing effect.

I guess that's the new standard in Trump's USA.

They were paid if they attended the rally. That makes the size of the audience suspect, to say the least.

Ah yes, the illness suffered by trump supporters who ignore all his lies, his bigotry, his pro-fascist actions, his support for dictators over democrats (Hong Kong being the latest) and so forth. And now the talk that he's going to give his "brownshirts" license while branding those against fascism as terrorists.

    We've seen this movie before.
