Ever accidentally stolen something?

I like the rosary I had at the monastery but it didn't belong to me. I accidentally left with it in my pocket.

Now I have it, and intend to keep it. Had I known I had it on me before leaving, I would have set it back on the desk where I got it.

So, the intent was not to steal it, but I don't want to mail it back to the monastery, so probably won't return it until my next trip to the monastery , which could be a long time from now.

What would you do in this situation?

Ever accidentally stolen something?

Yes, accidentally, like someone leaving something in my car. I've always returned stuff like that.

I suspect keeping it or returning, either case, will have very little impact on anything other than your conscience.

I stole my first wife's virginity.

Upon our divorce, I returned it with an apology to its owner.

But seriously, my first wife wasn't a virgin when I met her.

And if I take something accidentally, I go out of my way to return it to its rightful owner.

At a young age I was told never to steal and that if I did, I would be locked in jail forever (even at age 4). It stuck with me, so the first thing on my mind is never so much as misplace.

Haha I once walked out of a shop with a basket full of things. I was very heavily distracted at the time. I sheepishly went back and apologised to the girl working the counter. We both laughed and I paid for my groceries.

I have a habit of sticking pens in my pocket after using them. I often accidentally do this in stores and such after signing things and will return them if I am aware of it in a reasonable time. But they are, really, just pens. The only time I got called out for it was at a Meineke after getting my muffler replaced. The mechanic stopped me before I left the shop and sternly reminded me to return his pen--an ordinary blue Bic.

Must've been his lucky pen.
