Emily just wants to be alone

This world's a playground full of laughing kids,
Playing all the games that children play,
While one little girl,
Lost in her own world,
Gazes out at something far away,

Sitting like a princess on a throne,
Lost inside a playground all her own,
Emily just wants to be alone.

Emily has secrets she can't speak,
Lullabys are only lies they sing you in your sleep
"I love you"s just another game
"Everyone that touches you wants something you can't name",

She tells herself no one can ever know,
About the men who said they'd take her home,
Then took her to a place where little girls should never go...

Now she hides from everything she's known
And all the games they make her play at home,
And Emily just wants to be alone.

***
A lifetimes just a stream of years,
Emily thinks, gazing at the woman in the mirror,
Wonders if it's ever going to change,
Cuz in her eyes, and in her mind,
Everything's the same,

She gets up and disconnects the phone,
And laughs at all the men who think she's grown,
Emily just wants to be alone;

Emily's just waiting for the day,
When someone just like her will come and play,
Someone from another world who'll carry her away....

Emily sees something in his eyes,
Something from a long lost dream,
She seems to recognize

Somehow he's found her secret place,
Everything she's running from is written in his face

She can tell he sees through her disguise,
And whispers to the little girl inside,
And all the things he say's are lullabys;

"I promise I won't try to cage your soul,
Or take you someplace you don't want to go,
I promise that I'll try to find a way to take us home..."

But Emily has secrets she can't speak,
Lullabys are only lies they sing you in your sleep,
"I love you"s just another game,
Everyone that touches you wants something you can't name",

The little girl wont let the woman go,
Or tell her things she doesn't want to know,
And running from herself's the only way she's ever known,

Sitting like a princess on a thrown,
Pretending that she doesn't hear the phone,
Emily just wants to be alone.

***

Seems like just another year,
Emily thinks, turning from the shadows in the mirror,

Shakes her head, wonders who to blame,
Someday came and went, and everything's the same,

She gathers up her dreams and lets them go,
And whispers softly what she's always known;
"Emily will always be alone".

***Epilouge***

Emily has learned to play a brand new game,
There aren't any stakes, anyone can play,

She just needs to lie back and pretend,
It's another broken soul who could have been her friend

Now she sees his picture in her head,
As she lies beside the stranger in her bed,
And gazes out the window at a world that might have been...

I'm sorry if I tried to get too close,
I'm sorry if I made you lose control,
And if I touched a part of you no one's supposed to know
.

Beautiful, powerful poem. You've treated the subject with great sensitivity.

It's long, but not too long because each line is needed.

Naturally, I suspect you plagiarized it from some poor, starving poet of immense skill.

Ya got me Phil. :p

There's this homeless guy in my town who spends all of his time passed out under the bridge. If you pour a cpl shots of ripple down his throat and give him a kick he starts vomitting song lyrics.

..and Stacey. :) (see Hannah? Stacey gets a smiley because she said "damn").

Well... mother ******... Son of a *****... I never get any smileys... Well, **** me.

That's okay though... would I get a smiley for other curse words, like *******?

What if I was to say the poem was mother ******* amazing? Or do you only give smileys to mild swearing?

Well, it's a fine line; ideally it would have to be something that gets the point across but still makes it past the filter.!

I think we may have to have our filter adjusted after this.

(but here's a smilie for effort ) :tigger:
