I have issue with food, period. I don't eat or crave a whole lot of junk food, but I seem to be unable to control my portions.

I've got family dealing with some blood pressure and pre-diabetic issues. They're trying to switch to vegetarian. Our family tends to have a tummy, and that is true going back for generations. I can't ignore food when it is around. If I can beat the tummy I think I can live long enough to make up for some lost time. If not then I will inherit several problems.

I've been learning to cook, and that is helping me. I buy my own groceries and cook my own food. I've also given up caffeine which helps with appetite. All of this has been difficult. Cooking has a steep learning curve. In the beginning I was eating frozen burritos, mini pizzas and nabs. To help me I have a microwave, an instant pot, a nice convection toaster oven, a small air fryer and an induction stove with 2 eyes. I've also got a single coil stove eye. I have limited power, so I cannot run all of these items simultaneously. Running the microwave and the toaster will trip a breaker.

Its frustrating that many foods are unhealthy, and there is conflicted information about what is healthy and what isn't; and I'm still trying to find out what I like to eat and to cook. I have read people saying beans aren't healthy, that rice isn't healthy, that potatoes aren't healthy! Well what the heck am I going to eat? I ignore that advice now, because in the end I have to eat something. If I can't eat beans and rice I may as well go sit on an anthill.

Did you know that delicious Brazil nuts are poisonous? Eating four in one sitting is the most you should eat at one time, and you should never, ever, ever give them to children. They're sold at most grocery stores -- the nuts not the children.

Recently someone gave me a cabbage. I looked at it for several days not knowing what to do with it. It was like having a bowling ball in the refrigerator. Finally I looked up a recipe and dealt with it. It was very good, but I still had about 80% of the cabbage left over. I'm still working on it two days later.

One time I kept some sweet potatoes for a long time until they went bad, because I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with them. Since then I have taken a liking sweet potatoes raw. I peel and slice them cold.

I'm allowed to have rice if it's brown rice and only one or 2 servings a day of bread. One serving of a baked potato is ok if it's baked not mashed. I get 2 clean breads a day, bread as a whole baked potato, or brown or whole wheat breads like brown rice, whole wheat bread, or made from corn such as a crispy corn taco shell. No white bread are allowed and no mashed potatos.

mashing a baked potato doesn't make it any worse for you, powdered mashed potatoes might be a problem though

I can tell you I never had any weight concerns when I was vegan. And I was far from the 'health nut' type.

I get a veggie box delivered once a week, all fresh, in season, organic produce. Plus, I share an allotment (vegetable garden) with a friend. I hate waste, so all this stuff has to be cooked and eaten, which has improved my diet immensely.

On the other hand, someone went and opened a new bakery on my local high street. Best chocolate eclairs in the world. Win some, lose some.

Bread is the real enemy though. Bumped into an ex colleague the other day, who’d lost so much weight I almost didn’t recognise him. He said he’d given up bread completely.

we need 45grams of sugar in the muscle just to get up and move about
we need 45grams of sugar in the blood to replace the spent energy

one bottle of Coke has 54grams

you should not eat ANY more sugar, or flour, or fruit, or much of anything else

    My vice is diet soda...

I KNOW. Its terrible for me. But... I am a flawed human.

And yes, I actually prefer the taste of diet. Its not a weight loss attempt. But no one believes me... :(
