When the position of clergy is in direct contradiction to the religion itself, is it acceptable? For example, I find the term 'Satanist Clergyman' to be contradictory. Given some other religions' belief in the equality of all people, should they have clergy?

It depends on if you view clergy as a higher position or not. To me, clergy is just another job. like arc welder, or plumber, or accountant, etc... It does not hold in itself a place of higher positioning.
