When you think about it, babies are born with no 'knowledge' - in that state of innocence, they are 'clean'. Maybe an argument can be made to show that the more we learn and experience, the more likely we are to put ourselves in a situation that would lesten our chances of salvation. The more you know, there is so much more opportunities to be tempted to do wrong.
Pride of intellect and arrogance is indeed a stumbling block. We are encouraged to approach as little children. To me it means in a simple and trusting way, knowing how much he cherishes us. I think it's an attitude of the heart more than anything.
