  1. Labour has won two by-elections in Wellingborough and Kingswood, overturning big Conservative majorities in the process
  2. In Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, the party took Peter Bone’s former seat, which he had held with a majority of more than 18,000
  3. And in Kingswood, South Gloucestershire, Labour overturned a 11,220 Conservative majority to win Chris Skidmore’s former seat
  4. BBC elections expert John Curtice says the swing from the Conservatives to Labour in Wellingborough was the second biggest in any post-war election
- John Curtice: By-election results leave Tories with mountain to climb

Sadly, in order to appease the Sun readers, the Gammons and the Red Wall, Labour has to head right. I don't like it, but if you can't see a difference you are not looking hard enough.
In 2010 when Labour were voted out after 13-years in Government, the UK was in a pretty good place. Rivers were clean, schools weren't falling down, NHS waiting lists were short and we were in the EU, strikes were not a thing, we even had the Olympics to look forward to. Brown had even magnificently handled to 2008 world financial crash leading other countries (the EU) to follow our methods.

Look at us now. A joke.

It is true that NHS wait times were down and the funding gap was closed, child poverty was lowered significantly and Blair's government introduced the min wage.

Though if you look a little bit harder you'll see use of PFI to pass public wealth into private hands (while charging us for the privelege), the complete financialisation of the economy and one of the vilest crimes against humanity perpetrated in modern times.

Since then Labour has purged everyone left of Peter Mandelson which means there will be no-one to stop the neoliberal faction in charge from doing what they want - which is passing our assets to donors.

So it took the public three terms to notice Labour were so bad? Doesn't say much for the public then. o_O

PFI got buildings built.
Labour are now electable, they were not under Corbyn.

Buildings we could have built at lower cost and better quality. We ended up paying twice for hospitals and schools that are falling apart.

Labour are now the tories, they were not under Corbyn.
The building built by Labour are NOT falling apart; one of the first thing Cameron and Osborne did was cancel Labour's Building Schools for the Future program.

Hopefully Labour will soon be in power THEY ARE NOT THE TORIES, you will then see that is the case.
They were always an opposition party under Corbyn, opposition parties cannot do anything.

I am not marrying Starmer, I am voting to get rid of the Torries.

I'd love to be pleasantly surprised.

Also, I'm not sure how you haven't noticed, but since 1979 Labour were in opposition under every Leader except the guy who is godfather to one of Rupert Murdoch's children.

I'm sceptical that a Labour govt will produce significantly different outcomes from a Conservative govt.

But the last Labour government, led by a centrist who had a lot less personal background in the Labour movement than Keir Starmer, did produce significantly better outcomes for ordinary working people than the Conservative governments which preceded and succeeded it.

Why would this have any impact on how effective Starmer's govt is going to be?

Have a look at the list of absolute howling bull****ters in the shadow cabinet, and tell me you're confident that you're looking at people who want to improve our lives.

The only ones I know anything about are Ed Miliband, Rachel Reeves, Angela Rayner, Annelise Dodds, Yvette Cooper and David Lammy. Who all seem a marked improvement on the corrupt bunch of shysters, chancers, chisellers and rotters on the government front bench.

Was Gordon Brown godfather to Robert Murdoch's child? I hadn't realised.

Brown took over for one election and failed to win, so let me rephrase; Labour have lost every election since 1979 where the person in charge wasn't godfather to Rupert Murdoch's child.

OK, so one Labour PM in your timescale was Murdoch's child's godfather.
But that same PM led the country for 10 years, improved the country immeasurably and because of that, I can handle him being the friends with the owner of much of our media.
I would prefer a further left wing Labour leader, BUT I will abide with a centre right Labour party rather than a far right Tory one.

The only Labour leader who won an election in my lifetime was godafther to Murdoch's child. I think it is important to keep that in mind when we discuss "electibility".

Ok. That's your shout. I'm sure they won't be any worse.
