Brahmakumaris on 7 steps to stay calm in the midst of chaos

An informative article by Sister Pratibha Daya of the Brahmakumaris on staying calm in the midst of chaos...

7 Ways to stay calm in chaos

How do you stay calm, sane, and focused when everything around you is in a state of flux? Here are 7 tips to help you keep a cool head.

1.Breathe
– Yes breathe. The act of breathing slowly and deeply helps to relax your body but also slows down your thinking. Thinking fewer thoughts gives your mind the space it needs to find clarity and calm.

2.Traffic control
– That is, traffic control of your mind. Get into the habit of taking mental breaks for a minute or so, to notice the world around you. This will make you aware of and help you put a stop to the stream of thoughts in your head. It helps to focus on a mental image you associate with peace and calm, or to play some music that soothes you when you take these breaks. The best practice, however, is simply to look around and observe life around you – without thinking! This practice, if used frequently and consciously, will help you develop an ability to stay present and centered.

3.Self-reflect
– Make time to reflect on the experiences of your day. What insights can you draw, what can you appreciate, and where could you realign your behavior with your values? Self-reflection allows time to process what has happened and to consider where you could improve as a person. The process of self-reflection will help you to stay focused on what matters most.

Focus
– In chaotic situations, other people’s urgencies and agendas can hijack us. We take on those urgencies as our own, and so our own sense of peace becomes disturbed. It is important to remember your own priorities, beliefs, and values. Consider other people’s perspectives, understand their fears, and be sympathetic to their situation, but never at the expense of your own sanity.

Stay centered
– A tendency most of us share is to feel responsible for fixing any chaotic situation we find ourselves in, by becoming a part of it. But chaos can never be fixed if you’re a part of it. Chaos can only be fixed if you remain centered and calm, and hold onto your inner peace, which will allow you to reorder the energy of chaos into the energy of balance. If you are internally balanced, you will be able to see things from a bird’s eye view and, when solutions present themselves, you will be able to act on them. The alternative is to become emotionally tangled in the situation, in which case finding solutions will be difficult and acting on them nearly impossible.

Be flexible
– The rigid oak crashes in the storm, but the flexible bamboo survives. Don’t be too fixated on your ideas or preferences. Be flexible. This will allow you to invite newness into the situation, which can lead to something better than what you had planned. So be open to diversity and new perspectives – don’t lose your principles, but understand that there are many ways to be in the world.

Hold onto your sense of humor
Laughter really is the best medicine. Don’t take things too seriously and try, always, to look on the light side of things. Do not view your responsibilities as a burden, but rather as an opportunity to serve with love. Learn to look at life with the innocence of a child and respond with the wisdom of a master. Call it art or call it a challenge – but ultimately, it is about experiencing the best of what the moment has to offer, and letting go of the worst. ~ Sister Pratibha Daya, Brahmakumaris

"Finally, the Sindh Government used the Criminal Law Amendment Act of 1908 to declare the Om Mandali as an unlawful association. Under further pressure from the Hindu leaders in the Assembly, the Government also ordered the Om Mandali to close and vacate its premises."

Don't worry about Hinduism. It has survived thousands of years, it will be there for thousand of years.

If people are (marrying or converting), then it is their wish. They have the constitutional right to do so.

It is this ostrich thinking that is responsible for hinduism struggling
To survive even in the homeland

The Brahmakumaris, which is a spiritual organisation that focuses on female leadership and empowerment, suffered a lot of persecution in the early days of the movement before India's independence due to the male dominant patriarchal nature of Hindu society where women were denied economic independence or inheritance rights under the existing laws.

Many dependent women were subjected to physical and verbal abuse by chauvinistic men who saw the organization as a challenge to their privileged status upheld by the primitive social laws of the time. Some women were even reportedly killed.

After India's independence , the new constitution greatly empowered women with inheritance laws and economic rights, which empowered the organization as well.

India's first female president Pratibha Patil was known for her close ties with the Brahmakumaris.

The former Indian president, Ram Nath Kovind during his tenure had inaugurated the Brahmakumari
two-day national convention on ‘Empowerment of Women for Social empowerment' at their headquarters at Abu Road in December 6, 2019.

The present Indian female president Droupadi Murmu follows the Brahmakumari lifestyle, and had credited the teachings and meditation practices of the Brahmakumaris for helping her recover from the sudden deaths of her husband and son a decade back.

Proves nothing. Hinduism continues to decline because we negate the desires of brahman.

How does Brahman which is pure consciousness, have desires ! o_O

If Brahman has desires in the form of cravings and aversions (raag-dvesh), it ceases to be pure and would be under the influence of vices, just like immoral human beings. All vices are but cravings and aversions.

However create a thread in the same faiths forum or Hinduism forum if you wish to discuss or debate this so that this thread is not derailed.

Basically, Hinduism has no space for those who claim divinity, or claim to be representatives of any God. When that happens, it is not Hinduism.
However, all can be Brahman, humans, animals, vegetation or even non-living things.

Being Brahman is not a claim, it is a fact. You and me too, are none other than Brahman. Krishna was Brahman. Even Lekhraj and all his eight Sindhi Bhaiband women were Brahman, only that they did not understand it.

I never said that Brahman is 'divine'. Brahman is 'Physical Energy' with which we started at the time of Big Bang.
All things in the universe, without any exception, are Brahman. Humans, animals, vegetation or non-living substances. Nothing exists in the universe other than Brahman. That is 'Advaita'.
'Sarvam Khalu Idam Brahma' (All thing here are Brahman).
I am a strong atheist Hindu. How can I subscribe to any thought of 'divinity'? Theists believe in 'divinity'.
