Are Jews allowed to kill dangerous beasts?

I am curious. This is from the hunting thread started by someone else, which got me wondering if Jews who live by the Torah are allowed to kill wild beasts or if they have to put up with them or what. I have noticed through casual reading that there are wild dogs and bears in a few Bible stories in areas with people. I don't know if these stories represent life under the Torah, but I am wondering if there is some regulation against killing bears and wolves and such dangerous creatures.
