    1914 years after what?

the point is that no historian claims to be able to read the past to a specific year precisely and 100% accurately.the time around the messiah's birth being off has to do with anything before that time also being off.

that is supposedly the time when world wars started, and thus to a jw, coralates(sp) as a sign of the messiah's return.

Harumphhh! !! Peter 3 debunks the myth of trying to GUESS when the Lord will come again. You can't do it because God won't allow it.

People already want to wait till their death bed to repent. Imagine how many would put off righteousness if we KNEW when he was coming? I might not even get to finish this sentence, or may day an old man.

That's right, we still have wars - but 1914 was the "beginning of the pangs of distress" that Matthew 24:8 foretold. NetDoc, 1914 to now (2004) is 90 years. If you can name me 90 OTHER years in our human history that has had so much bloodshed, famine, death, disease and many other pestilences - I would like to hear it.

1914 was simply the beginning of the end of this sysem of things - read the entire the entire chapter of Matthew 24 and see how it compares to our times - you will be suprised.

You have not been reading what I have been writing have you? :)

The date STARTS from when Jerusalem was destroyed = 607 B.C.E. (This is backed by the Bible)

    607 B.C.E. + 2520 years (Daniel 4:23-25; Rev 12:6, 14) = 1913 (add the uncounted year "0") = 1914 C.E.

The birth date of Jesus has no relevance in it whatsoever.

People have been saying that since biblical times. But the words that jump out at me are "Do not be alarmed". So I won't be, and will continue to concentrate on loving my neighbor.

Are you even reading what I am saying?!

The date 1914 is when God gave his Son, Jesus Christ, the rulership over the the earth and mankind (Daniel 4:25). 1914 is by no means the date of of Armaggedon (obviously - it was 90 years ago), but is the date when the organization of the heavenly realms changed. Why the change? Because the heavenly realms are now beginning to go into a phase where they will now begin to get ready for Armaggedon. The era we are in is now leading down into this earth's final days of this system of things!

When is the date of Armaggedon? I 100% agree with you - nobody knows. Matthew 24:36: "Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father."

On the contrary, the Bible say's otherwise:

1 Thessolonians 5:2-3: "For YOU yourselves know quite well that Jehovah’s day is coming exactly as a thief in the night. 3 Whenever it is that they are saying: "Peace and security!" then sudden destruction is to be instantly upon them just as the pang of distress upon a pregnant woman; and they will by no means escape."

The rapid movements of God's kingdom will happen when you least expect it - are you ready for it? Were you ready for 9/11 the day before it happened? None of us were. Where do you want to be when this happens, in God's eyes in his favour OR not in his favour? That's why you have to act NOW and be prepared!

Ah, that's where you are wrong! :)

If the Bible was never meant to be interpreted, how we would we know the following: Who is the Scarlett-coloured wild beast in Revelation? What does "666" mean? What does it mean when the Apostle Peter was given the "keys of the Kingdom"? What are the "7 bowls of anger" from God? What is the "great tribulation"?

The above are only a few examples. These by themsleves mean absolutley nothing - but when we look a the rest of the Bible, it gives is "clues" as to what these things could mean, and therefore, understand them - the 1914 concept is no different. God did not give us these accounts so that they would be shrouded in mystery - he gave us them to learn from and find out what they mean.

So you are saying that I should discount Jesus' command about not being alarmed by wars and rumors of wars? Maybe you should send him a memo with the correction.

I'm not saying that you should have a heart attack over it - but you cannot deny that the inevitable will eventually happen either. The question is: Will you be READY for it?

"Keep on the watch, therefore, because you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know one thing, that if the householder had known in what watch the thief was coming, he would have kept awake and not allowed his house to be broken into. On this account you too prove yourselves ready, because at an hour that you do not think to be it, the Son of man is coming." (Matthew 24:42-44) - Jesus Speaking.

II Peter 3:13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness. 14 So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.

    No alarms, just quiet discipleship.

    Hello everyone.
This is my very first post so pleeeaaase be gentle with me lol.
NetDoc... you said "So you are saying that I should discount Jesus' command about not being alarmed by wars and rumors of wars?"
I don't think you should discount what Jesus said at all,but I see Jesus words as a way of helping us to see that there is actuely light at the end of the tunnel so to speak. He was showing us that the Wars and rumours of wars are a sighn to us that there are better things to come for the earth and Mankind. So for that reason we need not be alarmed. It reminds me in away of having to get a painful tooth pulled. You know the tooth has to go, It hurts like heck at the time but once the dentist has pulled it out you know that you will get releif soon.
But at the same time, just as WitnessofJah has said,we do need to be on the watch.

The books of Daniel and Revelation are very closely aligned. You cannot read one without having an understanding of the other. The book of Daniel describes the various kingdoms that have existed through mankind's history and indicates that Jehovah gives ruling authority to the one that he wants--Jesus Christ. We are now living in the time of the end, where the last kings will soon come to their end (at Armageddon) and Jehovah will establish his long prayed for Kingdom under the rulership of Christ and his associate kings (144,000- See Rev. 7:4).
