Do those who prefer falsehood over truth deserve hell forever?

I think in general the answer without God it would be no. But when the truth is the absolute beauty and being worthy of worship and love if you deny the truth emanating from him and towards him, it's hating goodness at it's core.

No one can see their evil almost, most souls deceive themselves. However to be truthful and not lie to oneself and deceive oneself is needed to reach truth.

Truth is worthy to be sought after because it's goodness and beauty.

The light of God in the spirit from God's Authority, is truth from God and linked to God that we have to love those entrusted with that spirit and light from God. Desiring them and wanting them is desiring God.

Wanting other than God when God is available as a reward is evil.

Accepting God including his wrath side and being at peace with it is necessary.
Are you the one who has THE TRUTH?

Well us atheists have a problem as we don't believe in god or hell.
But, I believe in telling the truth and am annoyed by liars.
Do I lie, occasionally I do. But only when asked questions like, "Does my bum look big in this?"

There certainly people who are on the truth. Whether I am or not, doesn't matter to the topic.
Then you (like me) could be one of those preferring what
you call "falsehoods"'.
How would an objective observer discern who has The Truth?

I believe the falsehood that the world is flat wouldn't send a person to hell but the falsehood that a person does not need to repent sin will.

Its a moot point, hell is either not real or not demonstrably real so those who prefer truth will be inclined to reject the concept as believed by the OP in my view
I believe the falsehood that Hell doesn't exist won't necessarily cause a person to go there but it could assist other concepts that would.

Sura An-Nur has this "Allāh guides to His light whom He wills." So isn't it the case that if someone is not guided to the light it's due to Allah's will? If if that is so, where does deserving hell come in?
I believe the statement in the Bible is that God does not wish anyone to perish.

Its not demonstrably a falsehood in my view, but if you think it is you are welcome to demonstrate that the OP's concept of hell is real.

The problem is who is telling the truth.

I think it is so frightening - the willingness to be Nazis
Jews were condemned to gas chambers simply because they were Jews
Unbelievers are to be condemned simply based on a belief!
Who they are as people does not matter, what they did in life, morals, values do not matter
Entire families, women, children, even babies - wow!
Atheists are not bad people - yes you can believe the tooth fairy exists, Santa exists - but all we are asking for is some evidence
Sure, we will believe if you have evidence of God - but without that we are skeptical, that's all
.
The weaponization of God! Using God to preach hate, push conversions
no one asks - why exactly would God care whether we believe or not?
Why is it so important to him?
It is important because ancient people made God using their King, Dictator as a template
Think Putin - Kim Jong Un - belief and support are important to them
At stake is their power - they could be unseated at any time and so they must crush anyone who does not support them
with such ideas God becomes Putin! Kim Jong Un!
.
Why can't God care about us as human beings?
Actions speak louder than Words
So if an Atheist is helping people is he not with God? Is that not what God would like?
An Atheist spends his life helping the needy - so is he bound for hell & a Hitler goes to Heaven?
Can we sink this low?
.
Ultimately we see it is our view of God
If God is a King, Dictator then morals, values, who we are as people does not matter
All that matters is belief, religion
We are then groveling slaves/servants down on our knees on the ground, begging for mercy
And we see this slave terminology in religions that push conversions
If God is our Father, our Creator, our Teacher - thru our actions we make God Proud, the same as we do
with our Parents, our Teacher
We remain True Children of God - our rightful place is by the side of God

No one prefers falsehood in pure form. But some of truth and falsehood is mixed.

If truth was presented in pure form, all would follow it. If falsehood in pure form, all would avoid it.

However, with effort, mental clarity takes place. The first step of justice is to oppose one's caprice of what they want truth to be but rather become objective to want to know the truth and than adapt to it, rather then making up truth to their bias caprice.

At the end truth + falsehood = falsehood. It's required for humans to want mental clarity for moral guidance. Otherwise, we betray our nature as moral agents.
And of course you know truth from falsehood better than we do.

I don't think ANYONE prefers false over true. I think that people who believe falsehoods do so because they are mistaken, making a mental error.

And no, I can't imagine God punishing someone forever simply because they made an intellectual mistake.

So if an Atheist is helping people is he not with God?
It doesn't work like that .. our souls (inner beings), are spiritually elevated or otherwise
due to our intentions and actions.

This means that G-d guides whomsoever He wills .. not by 'magic-wand', but through our own
being.

"G-d is closer to us than our jugular vein"
- Qur'an -

All that matters is belief, religion..
Well, our beliefs have a huge influence on the direction of our lives .. and that is why.
..nothing to do with spite, just plain reality!

We are then groveling slaves/servants down on our knees on the ground, begging for mercy..
Humility is a desirable quality .. it is spiritually elevating.

If God is our Father, our Creator, our Teacher - thru our actions we make God Proud, the same as we do
with our Parents, our Teacher
We remain True Children of God - our rightful place is by the side of God
Exactly. :)

Per the paradigm of the Quran, anyone who wants the next world will get it, and anyone who want this world will get nothing in the next world but hell fire.

So it's a choice between desiring higher type world and experiences vs settling for the life of this world and preferring it.

This is because the next world is linked with God. Preferring the lower caprice over experience with God and his light is evil.

It's also not simply a mental mistake, but a type that we either deceive ourselves or realize who we are and who are meant to be and who are true Lord is.

If the truth is clear and provable, either people choose to not seek it or ignore the proof if it came to them. Both of these come of out hate towards the truth.

Wow -- not so profound how we are relating the hell-fire to denial of some Truth. "Deny this Truth and Roast" is your premise.

What is profound however, is the fact that since you have no idea what "This Truth" actually is, there is nothing to deny .. and so good that none of us have to worry about roasting on the basis of denial of that which one does not know.

If the truth is clear and provable....
There's your fundamental problem, ie, none
of your claims are provable....or even disprovable.
They're just beliefs....one set of unverifiable beliefs
among hundreds or even thousands of other such
beliefs & myths.
To preach the unknowable with such certainty
& doom cannot lead anywhere positive.
IMO (added to comply with rules).

"It doesn't work like that .. " yes it does - if you are in an accident, you and your family lying by the side of the road, in pain, bleeding to death, and an Atheist stops to help, take you to the hospital, will you refuse such help? A Hindu doctor will work to save you and your family
You will need blood, do you know where the blood is coming from? From so many good people from all walks of life
Can you callously dump these good people into hell?
Working for religion that is intent on gaining converts by pushing division and hate based on religion - that is all you are doing
Then you are not with God
The world has changed much - we are much closer now but religions remain stuck in the past
A child is lost in the forest - thousands of strangers from ALL walks of life will turn out to look for that child
Are we really that callous as to think none of these good people matter - only religion matters
That is what the Nazis thought - only the religion of the Jew mattered
I find it frightening that the top 2 religions OPENLY promote these Nazi ideas of hate

Hinduism says if you think death is a gateway to a life of ease & comfort then you will be reborn as a Pet - a Dog, a Cat - then you will get your Heaven - Free food, shelter, protection, care - no work, no worries - lay about all day, every day! Heaven!
God is not running a Charity Retirement Home for billions to just sit and sponge off him for eternity just because they believed
Is God that much of a simpleton?
All we have to do is believe? And that's it?
So our lives are a lie? What we did in life does not matter? The people we helped, those that gave their lives for their country?
Just a religion using the carrot of Heaven to push conversions that's all
Can't believe we are this easy to fool

With all respect, I don't go in for this "spirit good, matter bad; heaven good, world bad" kind of thing. For all the suffering this world has, it has its beauty, its love, its meaning, whether it is listening to birds sing in the early morning, or looking into the eyes of a newborn, or a hero rescuing a child from a burning building. "God saw all that he had made, and it was very good." Genesis 1:31
