Okay, below are some verses from the New Testament and the Baha'i Writings that mean essentially the same thing.
This list demonstrates that the spiritual teachings of religions do not change over time, they are only repeated and refreshed.
Matthew 16:24-26 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

I find no reason to sweep away the Bible because of accusations against it, and many reasons to believe it as the word of God. Can I explain everything as if I were there? No, I cannot, and for some things I am waiting for an exact description. I find the preponderance of evidence in the Bible to be that it is true.
