Patriotic Democrats?

Can/should Democrats be openly patriotic? Is it acceptable (or even encouraged) to be a Democrat who believes the US is the greatest country in the world?

I also wonder about Republicans being patriotic.

We don't have to be the greatest in the world. We need to be a world player. That would make me more patriotic, than "being the best", whatever that means.

I consider myself patriotic, and I don't even fly a flag, put a bumper sticker on my car that says so, or wear "patriotic" clothing.

Those things aren't patriotic imo. They're a sign of unquestioning fealty. Which is dangerous.

So your answer is No—it’s not acceptable for a patriotic democrat to believe the US is the greatest country in the world?

Of course one can be patriotic without believing their country is the greatest in the world. The two are not mutually exclusive. But as to the latter question, can Democrats believe the US is the greatest country in the world? This is a subject that came up in the most recent episode of Real Time with Bill Maher and it got me thinking.

I don't see why a Democrat can't believe that.

I'm a Democrat now, and I don't believe that America is the greatest nation in the world. I didn't think it was when I was a Republican either. I think of myself as relatively patriotic, though, and in that regard, I agree with The Hammer. And for the record, there are other countries that outshine America in several categories, including: Switzerland Is No. 1 in 2022 U.S. News Best Countries Rankings.

We have a country to be proud of now that most of them have rejected the MAGA fraud of Trump. Democracy seems to have been saved from the threat of MAGA.

And yes, many Democrats own and fly American flags. Current ones. With all 50 states. They celebrate July 4th. They apperciate veterans, and many are veterans.
