"BOULDER, Colo. -- Police on Tuesday identified a 21-year-old man as the suspect who opened fire inside a crowded Colorado supermarket in an attack that killed 10 people, including an officer, and sent terrorized shoppers and employees scrambling for cover.

Authorities said Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa was from the Denver suburb of Arvada and that he engaged in a shootout with police Monday afternoon inside the Boulder store. The suspect was being treated at a hospital and was expected to be booked into the county jail later in the day on murder charges.

A law enforcement official briefed on the shooting told The Associated Press that the gunman used an AR-15 rifle, a lightweight semiautomatic rifle. Officials were trying to trace the weapon. The official was not authorized to speak publicly and spoke to AP on condition of anonymity."

I'm sick and tired of all these mass shootings. I'd like there to be a ban on the private ownership of any firearm weapons capable of continuously firing more than a handful amount of high caliber bullets being discharged within a minute. Hunters and gun enthusiasts could still be allowed to legally own shotguns, bolt-action rifles, and six shot revolver pistols while mass shootings would become nearly impossible.

An AR15 rifle can not fire continuously. It is a semiautomatic weapon and the trigger must be pulled for each shot. A revolver can fire at the same rate.

Assault weapon is a dog whistle term that has no rigorous definition.

Revolvers can't generally shoot as fast, and overall if we look at something like bullets fired per minute, the AR 15 will dominate over any revolver simple due to a larger ammo capacity. Amd the "tricks" and modifications for an AR 15 aren't like cowboy shooting with a revolver. Anyone and their dead granny can easily turn an AR15 into a full-auto assault riffle. And, ultimately, the AR15 is the civilian version of the M16. Ultimately the AR15 is a great killing machine. Ultimately and unfortunately it seems popular among mass shooters.

Its a dog whistle term for those who don't want to wake up to the facts America's gun orgy is responsible for these mass shootings because people here would rather act more like a drunk with guns than a responsible adult with guns.
The AR15 can do more damage than a revolver. Reduced recoil, larger ammo capacity, ammo fired to be nasty to targets (as bad as a tridagger bad depending on where it hits), and designed for military use. It's not technically an assault rifle as defined, but it's useless bickering over semantics to avoid the fact America has got to start cracking down on guns, and that doesn't mean more of the tried amd failed sollution of more guns.

Owning several revolvers and AR-15's, I can honestly state that this is just flat out wrong.

For the most part, I agree.

Amd the "tricks" and modifications for an AR 15 aren't like cowboy shooting with a revolver.
Again, I agree

This is just flat out not true.

Except that it isn't.
Not even close.
At least, not to someone who has handled, disassembled, reassembled, care for and fired both...

Ultimately the AR15 is a great killing machine.
Same can be said for a great number of things.
AND without making up falsehoods to do so.

Ultimately and unfortunately it seems popular among mass shooters.
You are correct.

Good luck getting anyone to actually address the issues and come up with actual working solutions.
They been at if for decades and still have not figured out that merely banning things does not even slow it down, let alone stop it.

The standard AR-15 magazine holds 30 bullets and can be swapped out quickly, allowing a shooter to fire more than a hundred rounds in minutes, whereas a six shot revolver holds 6 bullets and each of its chambers needs to be reloaded after being emptied.

I make no falsehoods. The AR15 is a product of the Vietnam war, it is not hard to convert them, and for the most part and generally speaking revolvers will not fire faster than an AR15. I'm not saying it can't be done, I'm saying your average shooter will most likely not be able to make it happen.

Is that why they slowed down in places that banned them? And here they haven't been working on solutions. All they do is blame the mentally ill (which is a tragedy on its own), insist we need more guns and everyone needs a gun, and not consider research that shows owning a gun is a risk for the owner.

That's not continuous. It may also be something that contributes to lethality of shootings that use one. With a conventional full auto weapon, recoil plays more of a role, they are intended for a discharge of "quantity over quality," and "accurate enough" is how some of the better ones are described by trained soldiers. With the AR15 requiring one squeeze per bullet fired, this gives a pause that allows for shooters to realign their aim between each shot fired. This does help improve accuracy.

Even if they're not fully auto, they are still far more powerful than a revolver and cause far more damage very quickly. They are easily modifiable and you can use certain rounds to make it even deadlier. The El Paso shooter used hollow point type of bullet to cause more catastrophic damage: El Paso Shooter Coveted ‘Most Lethal’ Rifle Ammunition on the Market

(I saw footage from the El Paso shooting of the victims. They were literally blown away.)

Um an AR15 has a fire rate of about 45 rounds a minute.
A Glock 18 has a fire rate of about 1200 rounds a minute.

Of course the Glock 18 is illegal in the US.

Kind of looks like all semi-automatics are about the same. Really depends on how fast you can pull the trigger.

Assault weapons are banned pretty much.

Have to consider banning all semi-automatic weapons as the next tier.
