Ah, so how can you differentiate between Christians and non-Christians?
Not sure about all Christians, but there's an easy way to differentiate between Catholics and non-Catholics: make them watch Star Wars.

When an actor says the line "may the Force be with you," all the Catholics in the audience will respond with "and also with you."

What is the difference between a Christian and a non-Christian?

Whether they claim to be a Christian or not. How people define being a Christian or not tends to be individually determined.

Doesn't seem appropriate to go about saying someone who claims to be a Christian isn't based on whatever arbitrary conditions I might come up with.

I'd like to get slapped sometime in the face just to see how I would react!
In Bible speak, so to speak, I find a slap on the face meant being insulted.
So, when being insulted do Not retaliate. Vengeance is God's, He will repay......
Back in the days of dueling, a slap on the face with a glove was a challenge to fight.
The fighting weapons of Christians are Not carnal, Not fleshly, but spiritual like the spiritual armor of Ephesians 6:11-17.
