Let's talk about prayer!

I recognize only one prayer as being 'official', that being the Lord's Prayer, as prayed by the early church fathers. The only other 'prayer' I recognize is the Apareilementum, that being a combined communal confession of sins and prayer for forgiveness. I don't offer prayers of supplication as I believe them to be vanity.

As for the form of prayer, I look to Matt 26:39- Jesus 'fell on his face and prayed'. By this, when saying the Lord's Prayer I use what the Muslims call 'sujud', dropping to the knees and lowering one's forehead to the ground. (Interestingly, this is the same form that Karaite Jews use in their own prayers). Prayer times are as for the Early Church, with recitations at 6a, 9a, 12n, 3p, and 6p.

The Apareilementum is performed standing. There is no set time of day for confession, and it is done only once per month.

Loving God and my neighbor as myself.
(In particular personal private prayer, as opposed to mass prayers said aloud in a place of public worship)

Some questions to get going:

What is your religion?
Who do you pray to?
How do you pray?
What do you pray about?
What do you pray for?
How do you address The Almighty?
Do you feel any closer to God when you pray?
Why do you pray?
What do you get out of praying?
Have your prayers ever been answered?

Basically, tell us all about your prayer life!

(I’ll follow this OP up with an account of my own prayer life)
Corporate prayer is in a whole different box than private prayer. Jesus was addressing private prayer, not corporate prayer. Jesus himself prayed with his disciples.

  1. I am a Jew and practice Judaism.
  2. I pray to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
  3. I pray in many different ways, corporate and private, liturgical (formal) and improvised, at set times, and spontaneously throughout the day.
  4. I pray a lot of thanks and blessings, I pray a lot for others and their needs, I ask God for guidance all the time, and on rare occasions I ask for favors but these are usually stupid prayers.
  5. I address him as Adonai or Lord.
  6. I feel very close to God when I pray, usually. It's different if I'm depressed.
  7. I pray because God is my Father and he wants to hear from me.
  8. I get a relationship with God.
  9. Yes, I have had prayers answered, but I don't really keep track. It's not the point -- God is not Santa Claus that I try to get stuff from.

In his Sermon on the Mount Jesus said:

When you pray, don’t be like hypocrites. They love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners so that people will see them. I assure you, that’s the only reward they’ll get. But when you pray, go to your room, shut the door, and pray to your Father who is present in that secret place. Your Father who sees what you do in secret will reward you.

(Matthew 6:5-6 CEB)

But let’s bring it all out into the open...

islam sunna

We pray to god (Allah)
To ask for mercy also to confirm and sure that we worship God and not ignore him

We believe that if someone pray to show that he is praying for propaganda is a hypocrite 100%

But we must collectively pray only in major prayers
It is also related to cooperation and social relations
In the gathering for prayer is known the situation of the poor and needy
The rich come to pray and the poor come to pray and every man asks for his need after pray
the owner of the need for medicine come and the doctor when come will knows his illness to treat him, and so on,,, Carpenter, Tailor, Pottery Maker

The major prays which with the congregation (people) has a reward of 27 times more than one prayer at home and the mercy is wider for them because they are on one heart

There are two types of prayer
General prayer which is where Muslims meet together

And a special prayer called naafil
This prayer we should pray at home

Prayers in congregation also observe the behavior of individuals and follow their conditions

This is what I have now and maybe there is more accurate information needed to sit down and focus and retrieve the information and thank you

Some questions to get going:

I'll respond in Italics:

What is your religion?

Baha'i Faith
Bahá’í Prayers

Who do you pray to?

God

How do you pray?

I pray daily in private usually one of two prayers that are short or long with instructions such as turning to Bahji in the Holy Land and performing ablutions. For more information see:
Short Obligatory Prayer

I also usually pray in the morning and evening.

What do you pray about?

The prayers generally promote nearness to God and sometimes prayers for healing and advancement of departed souls in the spiritual worlds.

What do you pray for?

As above... nearness to God and sometimes special needs.

How do you address The Almighty?

Here are some samples: "O Lord my God"; "O Thou Who art the Lord of all names and the Maker of the heavens!"; "O Thou the Desire of the world and the Beloved of the nations!"; "O God, my God!"; "O my Lord"; "There is no God but Thee, the Almighty, the All-Bountiful. There is no God but Thee, the Ordainer, both in the beginning and in the end. O God, my God!"

Do you feel any closer to God when you pray?

Yes it does help...

Why do you pray?

As above to be nearer God and sometimes for healing or to remove their difficulties.

What do you get out of praying?

It provides nourishment for my soul.

Have your prayers ever been answered?

I don't pray for "things" as much as being nearer to God and for spiritual nourishment.

Basically, tell us all about your prayer life!

As above...

Some questions to get going:

What is your religion?

I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses and have been for the last 47 years.

Who do you pray to?
The God and Father of Jesus Christ.

How do you pray?
Sometimes out loud but often in silent communication with God in my mind.

What do you pray about?
Using the Lord's Prayer as a template, it is appropriate to pray for the sanctification of God's name in a world that has lost sight of him and discredits him. We look forward to the benefits of his Kingdom when it rules the earth and ask our Father for the strength to endure the many trials that life in this world brings upon us.

What do you pray for?
To remain faithful to all that Christ has taught us, never making excuses for disobeying him.

How do you address The Almighty?

By his name (Yahweh, Jehovah) as many of the Bible writers did. (Psalm 3; Jeremiah 1:6; 2 Chronicles 1:9) The word "LORD" in capitals in these verses is YHWH (Jehovah)

Do you feel any closer to God when you pray?
It helps to see ourselves before the lofty throne of God to offer our prayers and petitions and supplications, with due reverence but also as speaking with a trusted friend.

Why do you pray?
Because God has offered us this channel of communication even in our sinful state. He has provided a mediator to bring our prayers before God with the assurance that he will hear us.

What do you get out of praying?
The satisfaction of knowing that my God has heard me and that he cares about all of us as individuals.

Have your prayers ever been answered?

More times than I can count! And in ways I could never have imagined.
God will never answer selfish or superfluous prayers, but a few words from a humble heart are more important to God than a thousand words said by rote.

Basically, tell us all about your prayer life!

I don't know what a prayer life is. All I know is that I naturally talk to God every day about everything. I lament the injustices and the natural disasters and wonder how people are managing to survive them. I see man's inhumanity to man and ask God for his Kingdom to come to put a stop to the madness. I try to imagine the life that God has in store for those who qualify as citizens of his Kingdom. Its the life Adam and his wife threw away.....Jesus came to get it back for us. (Revelation 21:2-4)

I believe that these are the last days of this world system and that it will all end badly for those who think that they don't need God...or who assume that he must comply with their wishes instead of the other way around.

These are momentous times....and all foretold in God's word.

I am Jewish by faith and my God is the living God of Israel. The only time I formally pray is when something happens and I say "O my God..." For example when I lose something. I am in a constant state of prayer. God knows all of our thoughts and God is in all of my thoughts. I am holy and God answers all of my prayers, sometimes even before I ask. God will not answer the prayers of a wicked person. Psalm 66:18. "If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me". You have to come to God with clean hands.
