That's really interesting and apparently it is true that the Passover ends with the high Sabbath, but why does Paul say that the sabbath days are a shadow of things to come? (Col. 2:16-17) There's more to the Sabbath. God gives an earnest of the inheritance now, (Eph. 1:14) but haven't yet entered that rest that is total. What you say proves we don't have to keep the sabbath days of the Mosaic Law and I agree, but those who want the eternal rest of God; labor to enter it. (Heb. 4:11)
That's because Paul was speaking to the Jews of Israel in the book of Colossians 2:16-17. Gentiles were not apart of the 7th day Sabbath back in the Old Testaments or the Passover which was for Israel alone.
Notice that in the book of Hebrews
Chapters 3 & 4.
Remember that back when Israel was out in the wilderness with Moses for 40 years, How they were keeping the 7th day Sabbath.
So in the book of Hebrews 3:10-11.
Notice what God has to say about Israel.
Verse 10-- "Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways"
Just because Israel was keeping the 7th day Sabbath, Israel still didn't know God's ways.
Therefore just because people keep the 7th day Sabbath, does not mean they know God's ways either.
Verse 11--"So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest"
Just because Israel was keeping the 7th day Sabbath, They still were not entering God's Rest.
Therefore just because people keep the 7th day Sabbath, Does not mean they are entering God's Rest either.
You see there is the 7th day Sabbath and there's God's rest.
Just because Israel was keeping the 7th day Sabbath, Israel was not entering God's Rest.
And the same with people to day, Just because they are keeping the 7th day Sabbath, does not mean they are entering God's Rest either.
Chapter 4:4--"For he spake in a certain place of the 7th day on this wise, And God did rest the 7th day from all his works"
Verse 5--"And in this place again, If they shall enter into My Rest"
Notice God said, If they shall enter into my Rest.
God did not say, if they shall enter the 7th day Sabbath. NO, God said, If they shall enter into My Rest.
Just because Israel was keep the 7th day Sabbath, Israel was not entering God's Rest.
Therefore just because People to day are keeping the 7th day Sabbath, Does not mean they are entering God's Rest either.
Verse 8--"For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not Afterward have spoken of another day"
Jesus never spoken of another day, Why?
Because as Christina's we are called to Rest in Christ Jesus.
"For even Christ our Passover is sanctified for us" 1st Corinthians 5:7
The Passover being the High Sabbath,
Therefore Christ Jesus is our High Sabbath of Rest. That as Christians we Rest in Christ Jesus and not on any day.
