Today is the Sabbath in this time zone. God rested on the 7th day how do we keep it?

Genesis 2:2-4 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

In another thread you recently say that to be spiritual there is either God or Satan, and on December 7th you say that "Jesus is the name of God when manifest in the flesh." You also are of the opinion that Adam should not have eaten the fruit. Now you quote Genesis 2:2-4 like its CNN or Scientific American. It appears that you have some kind of Lutheran impression of the Bible and are a literalist. Therefore it is you who cannot answer the question, you who do not have the answer, you who need help discerning it. There's no law to rest every 7th day outside of Judaism. What of 7 days? Seven days doesn't even accurately predict moon phases and is not astronomically significant -- does not mark times and seasons at all. It doesn't even divided evenly into 365. 7 times 52 = 364 days, so that after 49 years you'd have *something like* a repetition but not even then. Even then you'd be off by 0.25 * 7. which is equal to 1.75 days of variance. That doesn't even divide into 7 but only into 14. To get a full repetition you'd have to divide it into 14, which would equal 8 complete sets of 49 years to make 1 repetition -- that's one complete set of weeks every 392 years. In between there is no day in which your Sabbath lands upon the same position around the Sun. In fact a 7day week is the opposite of a sign or a season. It is the worst number of days to pick for repetition. To get a complete cycle you'd need 8 * 49 years. That equals 392 years, which is entirely pointless and far beyond the lifespan of a person. Its not for signs and seasons, because its just too long. You're dead in under 130 years. Hence outside of Judaism seven days is just not significant. What is significant for signs and for seasons are moon phases, sun.

You know what would work would be 5 days. That divides into 365. If you picked a 10 day week, you could have a complete cycle once every 73 years! That's just about right as it allows a human to actually obtain it. Instead you have a 7 day week -- the very worst choice.

It's present, you could keep the Sabbath. The Sabbath day represents living in Heaven, entering into Gods rest. As a metaphor living in heaven means following Jesus, doing right. You're supposed to do that everyday, so the only part you could do special for the Sabbath is not work. Not working on Saturday doesn't seem to be a major theme for the Gentiles. Outward shows of religion such as that seem to be regarded according to ones faith, if you believe you should keep the Sabbath you should keep the Sabbath, if you don't believe you should keep the Sabbath you shouldn't keep it.

o_O lol ... well at least some one is following my posts. But, I hope I would never bring the Bible down to the level of a travesty like CNN or Scientific American. As for Lutheran impressions of the Bible. I don't have much intimate knowledge of Lutheran teachings. I know that Martin Luther was the founder ... As for me being a literalist; that depends largely on how you define it.
As for the answer to this question. I haven't stated a personal opinion or belief in this thread so far.

I actually agree with you that the keeping of the Sabbath once every 7 days was for the Jews. However, there is more to the Sabbath than just that because it symbolizes things to come.

The Sabbath day represents living in Heaven, entering into Gods rest. As a metaphor living in heaven means following Jesus, doing right. You're supposed to do that everyday,
Right, but the writer of Hebrews says to not harden your hearts so that you can enter God's rest. (Heb. 3:7-12) And he exhorts to labor so we can enter the rest and he claims there remains a rest for God's people. (Heb. 4:9-11) So, the 7th day is yet to come as we see God rested from all His work on the 7th day. (Gen. 2:3) Although Jesus gave us rest because He gives the holy Spirit which is down payment of God's eternal rest. (Isaiah 28:11-12; Ephesians 1:13-14) And He also gives rest because we're saved by grace and not by works. (2 Tim. 1:9) Yet, we do work as Jesus says "take up your cross and follow me" and "My yoke is easy, my burden is light" So, although I would not argue that Jesus' burden is heavier than the weight of this world's sins; yet I argue that it is still a burden. Therefore it is work. So my conclusion is that the 7th day is yet to come as long as we're in this world.

In reply to your question, I feel for the most part, most people observe the Sabbath. However, they also for the most part observe Sunday the Lords day also. In most all cultures these two days are observed as a rest day, either religiously or culturally just to take a day off; these two days are the most common day most people get off from work. So in the general sense, it is a rest day by most people.
Shabbat is only for Jews. It's not a straighforward as it may have been painted.
There's no law to rest every 7th day outside of Judaism.

I do understand that it is only given as a law to the Jewish people. But do not understand why it is only pertinent to the Jewish people. The Sabbath was observed right after creation, before any Jewish people were around. And a lot of religions beside the Jewish faith acknowledge the Sabbath in one way or another. So I see no reason not to acknowledge it if you believe in a God that created the world.

You may be making an assumption here about Genesis. If you have not crossed the Red Sea then your world is not created in Genesis, because you were never a slave in Egypt and were not brought out. The law is not yours, and so you have not been ordered to tell your children about your journey from Egypt. Perhaps you and I have read a copy of Genesis, but this book is not written about us.

Right, but the writer of Hebrews says ...
And Yogi Berra said "I usually take a two hour lamp from one to four." At least in this case the author is known.

Perhaps 'prohibited' is not the best word here, particularly since we are hardly in a position to police the non-Jewish world. It is true, however, that any such observance would be considered unkosher and inappropriate.

A little kid signs his crayola scribble.
A masterpiece remains unsigned. Therefore, crayola scribble wins. Of course it does.
Who signed Genesis?

The Thread asks, "How to keep the Sabbath"

First we would have to discover what the Sabbath was about and then discover how to keep the Sabbath.

The 7th day Sabbath was to bring Israel to Christ Jesus.
Then once Christ Jesus came and died on the cross, We Christians nor is Israel under the old testament law of keeping the 7th day Sabbath.

Christ Jesus fulfilled the old testament law of keeping the 7th day Sabbath,By keeping it Himself.

Therefore Christ Jesus fulfilled the old testament law of keeping the 7th day Sabbath, Therefore we not under the old testament law of keeping the 7th day Sabbath. But under the New Testament.

1st Corinthians 5:7--"Purge out therefore the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, as you are unleavened, For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us"
Notice in the Verse above
( Christ our passover)

Note in the book of Exodus 12:11 at the bottom of the Verse "It is the LORD'S passover"
Therefore Christ our passover.

If anyone has any understanding what the passover is about.
The Passover is The High Sabbath. Which on this day, The sacrificial Lamb would be offered up. Christ Jesus fulfilled the Passover, High Sabbath, by being God the Fathers sacrificial Lamb for the sin of the world.

Therefore Christ Jesus being our Passover also is our High Sabbath of Rest, That for us Christians we now Rest in Christ Jesus.
And not on any day of the week no more.

As Israel was under the old testament law,
to keep the 7th day Sabbath to bring Israel to Christ Jesus, that now Christ Jesus has come and died on the cross, We Christians and Israel, are not under the old testament law of keeping the 7th day Sabbath.
But we Christians and Israel, are under the New Testament, We Rest in Christ Jesus.
For Christ our Passover, is our Sabbath Rest, that we now rest in Christ Jesus our Sabbath Rest.
Notice what Christ Jesus said in
Matthew 11:28 --"Come unto Me, all you that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest"
Notice Christ Jesus did not say, I will give you 7th day sabbath rest, No
Christ Jesus said he will give you rest, That we rest in Him.
Therefore Christ Jesus being our Passover High Sabbath we Rest in Christ Jesus our Sabbath Rest.
You do know, Sabbath means = Rest,
and Christ being our Passover as stated in 1st Cor 5:7, which is the High Sabbath. Therefore Christ being our Passover, High Sabbath, That we Rest in Christ Jesus.

That's really interesting and apparently it is true that the Passover ends with the high Sabbath, but why does Paul say that the sabbath days are a shadow of things to come? (Col. 2:16-17) There's more to the Sabbath. God gives an earnest of the inheritance now, (Eph. 1:14) but haven't yet entered that rest that is total. What you say proves we don't have to keep the sabbath days of the Mosaic Law and I agree, but those who want the eternal rest of God; labor to enter it. (Heb. 4:11)

That's because Paul was speaking to the Jews of Israel in the book of Colossians 2:16-17. Gentiles were not apart of the 7th day Sabbath back in the Old Testaments or the Passover which was for Israel alone.

Notice that in the book of Hebrews
Chapters 3 & 4.

Remember that back when Israel was out in the wilderness with Moses for 40 years, How they were keeping the 7th day Sabbath.

So in the book of Hebrews 3:10-11.
Notice what God has to say about Israel.

Verse 10-- "Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways"

Just because Israel was keeping the 7th day Sabbath, Israel still didn't know God's ways.
Therefore just because people keep the 7th day Sabbath, does not mean they know God's ways either.

Verse 11--"So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest"

Just because Israel was keeping the 7th day Sabbath, They still were not entering God's Rest.
Therefore just because people keep the 7th day Sabbath, Does not mean they are entering God's Rest either.

You see there is the 7th day Sabbath and there's God's rest.
Just because Israel was keeping the 7th day Sabbath, Israel was not entering God's Rest.
And the same with people to day, Just because they are keeping the 7th day Sabbath, does not mean they are entering God's Rest either.

Chapter 4:4--"For he spake in a certain place of the 7th day on this wise, And God did rest the 7th day from all his works"

Verse 5--"And in this place again, If they shall enter into My Rest"
Notice God said, If they shall enter into my Rest.
God did not say, if they shall enter the 7th day Sabbath. NO, God said, If they shall enter into My Rest.
Just because Israel was keep the 7th day Sabbath, Israel was not entering God's Rest.

Therefore just because People to day are keeping the 7th day Sabbath, Does not mean they are entering God's Rest either.

Verse 8--"For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not Afterward have spoken of another day"

Jesus never spoken of another day, Why?
Because as Christina's we are called to Rest in Christ Jesus.

"For even Christ our Passover is sanctified for us" 1st Corinthians 5:7

The Passover being the High Sabbath,
Therefore Christ Jesus is our High Sabbath of Rest. That as Christians we Rest in Christ Jesus and not on any day.

The observance of Shabbat is only a requirement if one's Jewish. It makes no sense for a gentile to just follow that Law but then ignore all or most of the 612 other Jewish Laws.

You've made some good points, and I don't disagree really. But I think you're misunderstanding me. I am not arguing that Christians should keep the sabbath days once a week. I'm arguing we should keep God's Sabbath day. The 7th day of creation which is yet to come. You're referring to the "earnest of the inheritance" I'm talking about the final inheritance. So, we're basically on the same page. I don't disagree with you about resting in Christ and not worrying about sabbath days.
