Had Hillary been elected would she be doing as bad as Trump?

This is not about what you thought at the time you voted, but in considering everything Trump has done since being elected, do you think Hillary would be doing as bad, worst or better than Trump?

I voted better.
Despite her considerable baggage, accumulation of years in public positions, she was highly competent for the presidency. Trump is mostly demonstrating how much damage can be done by an incompetent noob, supported mainly by ill informed ideologues.

I voted better but I am biased because I support the Democratic platform more then the Republican one.
  1. She would have upheld/amended the ACA instead of trying to destroy it completely.
  2. She would have at least maintained funding to public educational systems instead of nominating someone to slash it.
  3. Funding to the DOI/EPA would have been maintained. Call me crazy, but I rather enjoy our planet.
  4. She has a more rounded understanding of various cultures allowing her to be more flexible and genuine.
  5. She has more political experience allowing her to be more efficient at her job.
Of course, this is a rosy picture because this is all hypothetical. I have no evidence for any of these things. Just predictions of an alternative outcome.

I think the fact that she would have been more careful with her words would make her a better president. Trump can't seem to just ignore the bad press and move on.

Depends largely on whether or not she was elected along with a Republican or Democrat congress. If I can add a Democrat House and Senate to this hypothesis Hilary would be doing much better. If she had a Republican congress she would currently be facing impeachment (but still doing better than Trump).

About the same. The presidency is only 1/3 of the government. The President has limited powers. They still have to deal with Congress and the Supreme Court. Without their cooperation there's not a lot the POTUS can do. Every single congress person and every Justice of the SCOTUS have individual motivations and agendas. The POTUS is only one person and has to figure out how to deal with it all.

The problem with Hilary is she would have made the divide worse. She like Trump does not have the skills to bring the country together. If elected worse case scenario is that it would lead to a civil war. Best case would be that we get a Ted Cruz republican or a Freedom caucus member as President with the support of congress after 4 years. An idiot president with no real power is the best result.

This is an important aspect of basic competence. It is necessary to be able to slough off bad press and unfair accusations to do the job.

Trump doesn't have that, and he made it clear before the election. Imagine the outcome if Hillary had sunk as low as a Twitter battle with one of Slick Willies paramours, the way Trump did with Mechado.

I couldn't agree more. Trump has the thinnest skin and most fragile ego I've ever seen in any politician.

She would be objectively more competent and suitable for the role, but she would have been mired in Republican obstructionism. It would probably have been worse than what we saw with Obama. I doubt that she would have been able to accomplish much.

However, we would be talking about inappropriate pant suits rather than inappropriate Russian liasons, so that's something.

She would have been far less embarrassing too. The rest of the world wouldn't be laughing at us so hard.

I also think Trump has more to hide than Hillary did. As a private citizen he could keep his corruption private. As a public servant he has to actually face the music. He can't just lie to the "media" or the public the way he did to investors and contractors and clients.

I don't think that's true. Unlike Obama, she had a ton of Washington insider connections and information and clout. She could have pursued her agenda in ways that neither Trump nor Obama are able.

Yeah, the way that he used his wealth to bully contractors and lied in order to intimidate property owners that he wanted to take advantage of is not covered nearly enough in the media. He was a despicable business man.

I don't know.
I feel like a lot of less than agreeable things would be going on in the background with her as president.
But I also feel like she would do the work of a representative, among other things, much better than Trump.

The media, to the extent that there still is a "media" , largely ignored Trump's lies and past history. Benghazi and Email server got more hits and sold more advertising.
That is unsurprising to me, given the extent to which the USA voters have been disenfranchised by the rigging of our political system. What reason would people have to hold their news sources accountable? From gerrymandering to the EC, from Citizens United to attack ads, what the citizenry know, want, and vote for doesn't matter much in this country. Why should the news?

The presidency was never meant to be an equal player in governmental power, the founding-fathers feared giving that much power to any one person. Congress was intended to have most of the power, but due to changes of the modern world, a growing use of executive orders and the how poorly the Constitution outlines what exactly is "executive power" the power of the presidency has grown beyond what was intended. At some point the power of the presidency needs to be curtailed, but good luck finding a president who will willingly give up power.

That's what I was thinking, that congress should naturally have a larger share of power. That's not what I was taught though. Congress makes the laws. Congress can accomplish a lot if they are united. When they are not, the President can veto those laws.
