I found this in a psychology book i picked up:

Heres the question:

Would you rather:

A)Spend 100 years in total hapiness but afterwards be returned to your normal life and not remember anything

B)Spend 1 moment in total hapiness and remember it for the rest of your life

i would rather have one moment of pure happiness, and keep that moment sacred and with me, than spend many years but then loose the memory, it renders (in my mind) the years of happiness as meaningless.

A....because there is the chance for more moments of happiness. And perhaps the years of happiness influenced me enough to carry on with good things in my normal life.

I don't get a lot of happy moments, so one of pure bliss I could remember, I would rather have that.

I chose B. Like the Captain eluded to, if you can't remember the happiness, then the happiness might as well not have happened.

Although, I just thought about this a little more. If you only have 1 moment of happiness with option A, then is the rest of the time miserable or happiless (if that's a word)? If that's the case, then I'd choose A.

I choose A for sure!!!
With the avarage lifespan of humans nowadays, 100 years means im going to be totally happy my entire life.
Besides, everytime Im drunk, I don't remember the fun I had the next morning either, still it's worth it :D

YAY, and we can even celebrate it for years and still have years of hapiness left :highfive:

I picked 'B'. Whether it's 1 year or 100 years, if I can't remember it, did it really even happen?
If you remember it, did it ever really happen? ;)

If I would not remember option "A," then I would rather have "B."

"A" would be like a dream you don't remember. It would be completely meaningless.

I have experienced that 1 moment of total bliss and I wouldn't trade it for a million happy years! Praise God.

Remember....we get to return to our normal life. I know for myself that I have already had many moments of total happiness. The OP doesn't say we never get any happiness in our normal life...only that we are returned to our normal life, remembering nothing.

Guess I'm a happiness hog cuz I would hope my subconscious is affected by all those mega years of happiness. The OP says you don't remember the happiness, it doesn't say you aren't affected by it. ;)

I should have been an attorney cuz here I am trying to figure out all the angles to have it all! :D

One moment can truly be enough to carry you through a lifetime and to make you strive to become a better person.

My expected life span is shorter than 100 years. If I had 100 years of happiness and then a potentially happy life afterwards, this seems much better than a potentially happy life with but a single moment of happiness. If I forget that I had 100 years of happiness, that does not nullify those years of happiness... I would have still had 100 years of pure bliss. Okay I would no longer be able to enjoy the memory but perhaps that would be a good thing? After 100 years of such happiness, my life afterwards would seem utterly miserable by comparison. By forgetting, I wouldn't be wishing for greener pastures all the time.

A. If I had a moment of pure happiness, I don't think that remembering it for the whole of my life would really make much difference. If anything, I would get upset sometimes that I had experiences such happiness and then it had gone... and I see just as I'm writing this that Fluffy has just said exactly the same thing, but I promise I thought of it as well before Fluffy posted! Anway yes, experience has taught me that your mood tends to dictates how you remember your memories, not the other way around.
