Strange Phobias

Does anyone have any extremely odd phobias?

I have a phobia of birds, but that's not that rare or weird.

However, I also have an unnatural fear of Sea Monsters, the fact that they most likely don't exist notwithstanding.

I absolutely refuse to go into any body of water that is not a pool and even then, when a tree beside the pool casts shadows onto the surface, I tense up.

If I watch a movie, read a story or book or see pictures of supposed Sea Monsters, I have panic attacks. My breath catches in my throat, I shake (sometimes violently, sometimes only slightly), I start to sweat like crazy and my heart beats a mile a minute.

It's the most ridiculous, irrational fear I've ever heard of, but I can't shake it.

Anyone else have anything like that?

No. :D I'm fairly high strung and jumpy, though this jumpiness is not confined to a fear of a certain thing.

WOW, no phobias here, but..

As seamonsters actually do not exist and so, when do you consider a sa-animal to be a monster?

I can't walk into a school gym full of people without my heart racing. Even now at 29 it still does it. I hate them, the bleachers, the feeling that everyone is looking at every move I make. Ahhhhh... I don't even like talking about it.

Wow that rings a bell loudly with me; the thought of any sport brings back dreadful memories of Boarding school.

I don't really have any extraordinary phobias, but I knew a girl who did. I met her in therapy ; she was terrified of caterpillars. If she walked down the road in the spring, she had to have someone hold her hand and comfort her whenever she went anywhere near bushes, or trees; I helped her a few times. I have never seen anyone so terrified as she.

As far as I know she still suffers.

I have the typical fear of heights phobia. I get claustraphobic at times too.

I don't want to trivialize your fear of sea monsters....but I think it's cute! Sorry! Needless to say you won't be booking a trip to Scotland to find the Loch Ness Monster eh?

I have an unnatural fear of fog. I feel like I am going to die in it. Like I'll never get out. I've had this since I was a little girl, and it still bothers me.

I have an irrational fear of telephones. If I have to call someone, I try to shorten the conversation as much as possible. Here's an average conversation with a friend on the phone:

Me: Hey.
Friend: Hey.
Me: Come over.
Friend: Kay.
Yep, that's pretty much it. One time my ex and I were talking for a bit over an hour. That was way uncomfortable.

I'm irrationally afraid of taking a bath. I'm afraid that something will come from the drain... no matter how stupid it is...

I'm afraid of deep water... that's all i can think of

Haha, he would freak at that. I personally find spiders and other things people are scared of really sexy. I love the black widow (the one that eats here mates after sex), girl power or what?!?!?

So does that mean when your friend screams at the sight of spiders you are really attracted to him at that moment? :D

I'm deathly afraid of spiders, but I think that's a pretty common fear. I'm actually quite scared of anything with six or more legs! I don't even feel entirely comfortable around butterflies!

I'm kind of that way about fog, too.

I am too! I can swim, but I'm not a strong swimmer and I think drowning would be the most horrifying way imaginable in which to die.

Here's my real stupid one: I have a fear of garbage trucks! When I was a little girl, I was playing out in my front yard one day when the garbage man pulled up in his big, noisy truck. He must have had a real mean streak, because he threatened to pick me up and throw me in the back of the truck where all the garbage was compressed. To this day, if I am in the front part of my house when I hear the garbage truck come down the street, I leave the room until it's gone by.

My goodness what a creep that guy was! I don't think your fear is stupid. It's totally understandable!

So is mrscarrdero. There are many times that when we are home I would approach her with a question and since she is not prepared to see me usually jumps with fear. I usually respond with "Um-I live here!?!?" but it doesn't seem to ease her fear. I don't quite understand it since it is just me and her in this small house. I am starting to take it personally.
