Jesus vs. Muhammad

Well, if they believe that Christ was a prophet of God, then how do they account for the fact that he called himself the Son of God? Do they think He was crazy, or lying? Why would they believe anything he said if they don't believe everything he said?

Yes, but He also called himself the Son of God. The Messiah. The One whose coming was prophesied. He was technically the Son of God and Man, because Mary was human.

Well to name a few references:
John 4:21-26
"Jesus replied, “Believe me, dear woman, the time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem. You Samaritans know very little about the one you worship, while we Jews know all about him, for salvation comes through the Jews. But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”
The woman said, “I know the Messiah is coming—the one who is called Christ. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”
Then Jesus told her, “I Am the Messiah!”

Mark 14:60-62
""Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, "Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?" But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer.
Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ,[Messiah] the Son of the Blessed One?"
"I am," said Jesus. "And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven."

Jesus called himself the Son of Man because he was born of a human. However, he also acknowledged the fact that he was the Messiah and Son of God. There are other testimonies in the Bible of others calling Jesus Christ which he confirmed. These are in John 20:26-29 (Thomas) and in Matthew 16:13-20 (Peter's declaration)...there are many more but I will leave it at that for now! :)

Muslims belief that Jesus(pbuh) is the messiah.
Muslims belief that Jesus(pbuh) had a revelation from god called the Injeel what was later corrupted.
Muslims belief that Jesus(pbuh) is a messenger and prophet of god.
Muslims belief that Jesus(pbuh) was created by a miracle of god in the womb of marry(pbuh)
Muslims belief that Jesus(pbuh) could do miracles and will come back.

Muslims don't belief that Jesus(pbuh) is god or a part of god.
Muslims don't belief that Jesus(pbuh) is a physical son of god.
Muslims don't belief that Jesus(pbuh) took away your sins nor that he died on the cross.
Muslims don't belief that Jesus(pbuh) taught people to abolish the law.

Just to make a point there is no such thing as Jesus(pbuh) verses Mohammed(saws)
in Islam you have to accept both you can't only accept Mohammed(saws).

In the Bible, 'Son of God' is used for many others not only Jesus. It basically refers to the righteous 'Servant of God'.

Psalm 82:6 "I said, 'You are "gods" (Elohim; plural to El); you are all sons of the Most High.' "

Exodus 4:22 "Thus saith Jehovah, Israel is my son, even my firstborn."

Psalm 2:7 "....Jehovah had said onto me (David), thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee." Here in this verse we see that God not only called David his "Son", but also had made him his begotten Son !!!.

He was technically the Son of God and Man, because Mary was human.
Then Adam should be a greater Son of God - he came from God alone with no Human.

"The similitude of Jesus before Allah is as that of Adam; He created him from dust, then said to him: "Be". And he was." (Al Qur'an 3:59)

i don't understand the connection between the thread title and the question, why do you add the name of Mohamed although you are asking about Jesus is son of god or not? why adding Mohamed?

Why would you believe Mohammad if Jesus was the literal son of God?

Jesus was the Son of God in the sense of a righteous person. As were all other prophets.

When he called himself "The Son of God" he didn't mean that he was literally The Son of God.

Take for instance this verse where Jesus denies being Good in the same way that God is good.

"Why callest thou me good? there is none good but God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments" (Matthew 19:17).

To put it simply, all prophets are the Son of God in terms of being righteous.
