Do you know maize, I don't believe that God can take on human form, and that anyone in physical form who says they are God or a god is bound to be a devil. But I think you're description above is enough to make anyone consider it

Rebecca also has 5 large tattoos and 3 body piercings. She covers them all for church because of the looks she gets. Seems some Christians look down on that. Some tell her that it's a sin.
Jesus is coming with a name written on His thigh. That sounds like a tatoo to me.

Personally I dress better than my pastor and hardly anybody gives me any guff about it, well, maybe the pastor. He mentioned there is a dress code (he's jealous).

A pastor I heard once gave this verse as a reason for dressing up for church, "Then Pharaoh sent and calledJoseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon: and he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh." Gen 41:14.

Personally I think that the merit for putting on your finest clothes for church service is related to the concept that what we do in church mimics things that go on in heaven. In heaven we will be dressed in fine linen. To try and mimic that here on earth does not seem like much of a strech to me.

Do you 'dress up' for church? Do you wear a dress or if your male wear a suit and tie? Do you think it's important to do so? If you do, what do you think of people that don't? (Please be honest.)
I dress up for Church. I always wear a dress and about 99.995% of the people I worship with do. It's just one of many ways I feel I can show respect to God. When I'm surrounded by people whose appearance is important to them, it makes me feel good. However, while it's important to me to dress up, it's not particularly important to me that others dress up if they don't want to. I would much prefer that my son show up for church in a pair of oversize pants hanging off his bottom and a shirt three sizes too large than not show up at all. I think the condition of our hearts is more important to God than the condition of our wardrobe, but I am just more comfortable looking my best for Him.

I just had a thought....how do you think an evangelical congregation would react if somebody ran around their church naked shouting 'I'm born again, I'm born again!!!!' only to be wrestled to the ground pleading 'But I'm born again, I'm born again, so I thought I'd wear my birthday suit!!!!!'

I never, ever wear anything more than a nice T-shirt and khakis. That's if I really need to dress up. Normally I'll just wear jeans that aren't dirty and a shirt that doesn't have stuff printed on the front of it.

I hate, hate, hate dresses. To be honest I feel like I'm crossdressing when I wear them. I'd be more comfortable in a nice suit than a dress.

But what if it's what you feel right doing, Rebecca? Would you suggest that I start wearing slacks to Church if I feel better wearing a nice dress? I agree that Church shouldn't be a fashion show, but I feel better about myself when I'm dressed nicer for Church than to go a movie or hang out around the house. Does that necessarily mean I'm trying to put on airs for the rest of my congregation?

Kat, let me ask you this. If everyone else was dressed in jeans and a t-shirt, would you still wear a dress?

Kat, If you like wearing a dress... thats fine. When I wore a dress I felt very false.
People judge .... I dont want to be judged, because I wear my jeans.
And alot of people do dress smart because everyone else does.
A man will walk in, take off his tie, undo shirt buttons, and remove his jacket... telling me its uncomfortable.
Why be uncomfortable?

That's hard to say. I suppose that if it were customary not to wear a dress, and people thought that I was just wearing one for show, I probably wouldn't. I'd probably try to dress to fit in. But if I were sitting in a congregation full of people in jeans and t-shirts and were dressed like everybody else, I'd probably feel a little bit like I should be dressed a little bit nicer than I was. It certainly wouldn't be my intention to try to look nicer than anyone else or to be the center of attention. But if I were to attend a Church where there was a huge variation in dress -- from jeans and a t-shirt to high-fashion, I'd probably wear exactly what I do now -- just a nice dress.

Yes, I wear a dress and my husband wears a suit and tie. I personally think it is important to do so, because its hows respect to God and His house, you are wearing your very best for the very best. I don't think any different about other people who don't, that's just my little thing on it.

Well, I certainly don't think God would want you to be false. And yes, unfortunately people do judge, darn it! As far as comfort goes, I find that I am more "physically" comfortable in my pajamas than just about anything else (Maybe I'll go get them on right now. Is 5:20 P.M. too early?), but I wouldn't find them appropriate for Church. I definitely feel more "spiritually" comfortable in a dress. Does that make any sense? I'm not trying to tell anybody what's right or wrong. I'm just trying to explain how I feel about my own way of dressing.

By the way, I LOVE YOUR NEW AVATAR!

Kat, if your comfortable wearing a dress, thats cool. Rebecca's not. And I doubt that you would look down your nose at her, or think less of her for not wearing one, as some have stated they would. Her point was some people get dressed up for show and the second they get home, off in their church clothes. I don't have my bible with me, left it at home, but I believe Matthew 23:25-26 talks such.

I call this been a SHEEP BAA! Ill do it because Mrs Jones does it.... Mrs Jones leader of the flock :D
Do you think God would want you uncomfortable in his house? Everyone rushes home, takes off their posh clothes... this tells me ITS NOT YOU :D You do it for show!
Wow. That's not judgemental at all.:sarcastic

I dress the nicest way that I know how when I go to worship. I dress in what believe is most presentable to the special occasion of worshipping with fellow christians in God's house. What makes me comfortable matters little to me. What other people are wearing matters little to me. I am not in it for a fashion statement. I want to put out the very best that I can offer and I would hope that others would do the same to commemorate the gathering of worshippers. If the best you have to offer and the best that you can do is a stained t-short and busted up jeans, then fine. But I would think that someone who can do better and yet does not, would have a small amount of shame at that.

Jonny - probably about 2% of my ward wears white shirts. :D And that's including the bishopric.

I didn't see the second part about what do I think about people who don't dress up. I must admit, I usually don't notice what people are wearing. They could go naked and I probably woulnd't notice. :biglaugh:
