Do you follow your horoscope?

Bastet

I get mine sent to my inbox every day, but it's more for a laugh than anything. Since it arrives after I have already left for work, my day is nearly over by the time I read it...so I read it more to see if there was anything in it that was accurate, more than reading it to see how my day will be. And I don't take it seriously lol.

Horoscopes are rediculous.

They say things like:

You will breathe today

I see in your future...an ivory obelisk...you are walking toward it...ah...you will raid the fridge sometime tonight...that will be 4.85...the spirit world thanks you...

Daily horoscopes are written so that they can apply to anything that happened to you that day will coincide with it. While astrology signs can give you an accurate profile of a person, daily horoscopes are along the same lines as fortune cookies.

LOL. Yeah, along with Bastet and Maize--I read mine for fun. My problem is that I can't ever remember it as the day goes on!

I'll occasionally read mine for fun. Sometimes, though, something will jump out at me and I'll notice it happening during the day. Could be, though, that my perception is based upon what I'd read.

Producing an accurate horoscope involves not just your date of birth, but year, time and place. Most people go entirely by their sun sign, completely disregarding - if they are even aware of - the fact that there is also a moon sign to consider, as well as one for the other 8 planets in the solar system, an ascendent or rising sign, and a midheaven sign. There's no way - unless it's been plotted particularly for you - that a horoscope can even hope to be accurate (except by chance). Even so, my specifically plotted one today tells me both that I'm pretty much going to be a sarcastic cow to everyone I meet (though now that I think of it I was pretty sarcastic to the other half this afternoon - but he's not everyone), and that my mind will be particularly sharp. So sharp I couldn't even remember my own phone number this afternoon. September 13th mentioned the chance of a new romance (I haven't finished with the old one yet), but neglected to inform me that the guy whose landscaping we had just finished the previous Friday would then refuse to pay for it.
I thought that was rather lax of it not to have picked that tidbit out of the stars.

I don't follow my horoscope. Once in a while I read it. I don't want to be influenced by anything I read about it.

Lady_Lazarus,

You seem to be very knowledgeable about horoscopes. I personally don't know much about them, but am interested in how they work: how can you tell a person's future from the planets, etc.? Is there science behind it?

I stopped looking and believing in my horoscope when I got the same exact fortune cookie message five times in three different chinese restaurants.

If anyone knows about the cookies, they come in big boxes and it's like the lottery that you're gonna get the same one five times in three different restaurants.

I looked at my horoscope which said I was going to get important news that day.

The fortune cookies all said: The world is your audience for your jokes.

I kept wondering if this really is the Matrix or not!

Horoscopes tell me things like "This will be a great day to make a fortune" thus reminding me that I'm not rich. So, I don't read them anymore. I don't need the reminder.

I have studied Astrology and, occasionally, when asked, have drawn up birth charts and have interpreted them. These interpretations are useful in revealing the individual's strength and weaknesses. There is then the interpretation of forecasts to be done, for specific dates. These depend on the relative positions of the planets compared to their positions at the time of birth of the individual in question.
I believe it to be a science that has been ridiculed by the mass garbage dispensed by the newspapers and other media. How can a forecast possibly be accurate for 1/8th of the entire population on the basis that they were all born under the same sign, without any reference to actual date & time of birth? - of course the forecasts are rubbish! How could they be anything but nonsense written so as to be vague enough to believed by the gullible as being applicable to them ?
I Have studied Numerology (Closely 'interwoven' with Astrology), and Palmistry.
My phylosophy in life is such:-
If my beliefs make me out to be a crank to the rest of the world, then let that be the way in which it sees me; I am an open book and have never put on a facade to 'fit with society. I would rather one good friend who knows me as the real 'me' than a dozen acquaintances who socialise with a facade of my true character.
I am aware that my above 'ramblings' might well sound as if they are tinged with a touch of anger. Perhaps they are so; I hate to see a potentially useful scientific tool relegated to the level of nonsense because of inproper application.

SO THERE!!!!!!!!!

Michel , I for one think that it is cool that you not only know the difference between the crap printed in the newspaper and what a horoscope is , but actually chart them yourself . { I started mine years ago , but never finished } .

Having never finished my chart answers the question , I guess . :) Although I think that astrology and the like are cool , and can be a tool , I am my own Master . { Scorpio coming out I guess ;) }
