"Death be not Proud"

I go to a Private school where the christian god is openly discussed, where we pray, and where we claim our faith....(some of us anyway)

"Death be not Proud" by John Gunther is the memior of his late son Johnny. In the book, Johnny is diagnosed with a malignant tumor that slowly eats away at his brain and kills him within 14 months. During this time, he manages the strength and courage to apply and get into Harvard, graduate High School, and create experiments (he was fond of Chemistry). This all happened a long time ago, and far away, (1946-47) and we still read the book. Johnny wrote letters to Einstien on the theory of relativity, and recieved answers! He lived to be 17 years old.

Johnny was Agnostic. He studied all religion.

For that simple reason above, my school has required us to read the book. What we are supposed to learn from the book is, "He did not believe in Jesus, and therefore he is burning in hell right now, how sad." (which is he general attitude at my school for nonbelievers, liberalists, and what they consider to be "cults") My teacher even said to us today, "Well, his parents are going to hell because they do not believe and did not teach their son that GOD was the right one to follow."

What do yall think of it? Personally I wanted to cry because of my frustration and laugh at her stupidity.

I will always be sorry that you have to attend that school and be with those kind of people. I pity your teacher that she can't even she past his/her own nose because of their bigotry(is that the right word?).

Seems a bit tactless. What was the point of saying this poor kid who suffered quite a bit now gets to suffer forever? Personally, I like to give G-d a bit more credit than that. I suppose that's always been one of the issues that Christianity has to deal with, though (and every religion has something)...if nonbelievers go to hell, then you end up with some very decent people headed there.

Gnosis_777, faith is impervious to ignorance. Think about it.

Sadly, we often find ourselves in situations we would rather not be. I take it you have "no say" in the matter of attending this fine educational establishment. I cannot imagine my reaction, if I heard someone say that or words to that effect, around me. "Duck and cover" comes to mind.

The difficulty of your situation is that you cannot come right out and say what you are feeling. I suspect doing so would not earn you brownie points at home or at school. So, what to do with the frustration, eh? There's the rub.

What you do, is you simply transform it. When you see or hear things that make you want to scream, ask yourself why you are going through the experience. What is there to learn? There must be something, otherwise one would not be going through the experience in the first place. Capiche? Grok? I am going out on a limb here, but I think you are obviously brighter than normal, otherwise you wouldn't be on RF, would you?

Perhaps this is all to make YOU more tolerant. To make you more compassionate? Learn from them all you can, so that you can never forget the lesson they are there to provide. Yes, it sucks, pretty hard in fact, but you will emerge a far better person for it. Just try to remember to connect on WHY when you see crap like this. The simple fact of the matter is things do not have to be "that way", if you decide to make the difference.

which just goes to show how the INACCURATE teachings of some , have had a great influence on the world and people get to believing this inaccurate knowlege about people suffering in hellfire . i say blame the so called religious leaders who teach lies about the bible ,and it spreads like wild fire , shame on them
The clergy of Christendom claim to be in God’s temple and have represented themselves as teachers of Christianity. But their doctrines are far removed from Bible truth, and they continually bring God’s name into disrepute

Bigotry is right.

I would use Spiritual blindness/ignorance. If God is Love, to become Christlike, a Christian should BE love.

true , but did not Jesus himself say ,if you follow a blind guide both will fall into the pit, i would say dont follow blind religious leaders because they are in darkness spiritually speaking
LET them be. Blind guides is what they are. If, then, a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit.(or ditch) matthew 15;14

(Luke 6:39) Then he also spoke an illustration to them: "A blind man cannot guide a blind man, can he? Both will tumble into a pit, will they not?

(Isaiah 9:16) And those who are leading this people on prove to be the ones causing [them] to wander; and those of them who are being led on, the ones who are being confused........... yes , so called teachers of Gods word the bible , will have a lot to answer for because of false hellfire teachings.

For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself keeps transforming himself into an angel of light. It is therefore nothing great if his ministers also keep transforming themselves into ministers of righteousness. But their end shall be according to their works........... 2 corinthians 11;13-15

(Matthew 16:27) For the Son of man is destined to come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he will recompense each one according to his behavior..........i wonder what Jesus will think about those who teach falshood in their churches:eek:

I think it is best to not worry whether or not someone is going to Heaven or not. Do your best to facilitate the oppurtunity for them to live a good life. In the end no person has control over the situation besides the person leaving this world. I generally assume that everyone is headed to heaven if the accept Jesus, but I am not 100% sure that others are not given a chance after they die. So I find it best to just pray for people while they are on earth to find Jesus.
