Is there any truth to this cartoon?

I think that the bias in the cartoon is obvious. Has Pat Robertson ever asked God to damn America in one of his sermons?

Regardless of the answer, neither one is a very good representation of what Christians should be like. They just come from opposite ends of the 'crazy' spectrum.

First and foremost, Wright did not ask God to damn America. He was preaching within the prophetic tradition, just like his namesake the prophet Jeremiah, who pointed out to the people of Israel that if you persist in injustice God will condemn you. And the people of Israel pilloried that Jeremiah too, but indeed his words were true. In Jeremiah's own time, Israel fell to the Babylonians. God's punishment for their inequities. If people actually bothered to watch/read Rev. Wright's sermon in its full context, THAT is what he was saying. America must stop its own evil-doing or else God will damn America.

Secondly, Pat Robertson has said the exact same thing. The only difference is that Rev Wright thinks things like racism and imperialism are evil, whereas Robertson thinks that tolerance for homosexuality is evil. (It's also the same thing that Jerry Falwell said, btw. God punished the U.S. with 9/11 because of it's tolerance for gays.)

I think the cartoon is spot on. Unfortunately the media and people with YouTube accounts keep playing the same few seconds of the sermon, out of context, over and over again.

No difference between them. Both in it for money and power as well as trying to shape the country into something it was never meant to be.

Unbelievable.

Rev Wright served as minster of Trinity, an inner-city Chicago church, for 36 years. In that time he created 70 ministries, including prison, food share, domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, cancer support, and drug&alcohol recovery ministries. It's really unbelievable how 36 years of service can be condemned by a few seconds worth of sound bites, played over and over again.

as well as trying to shape the country into something it was never meant to be.
You mean just?

Nope.
I believe he means the exact opposite.
They are both pushing to make America a theocracy.
And there is little to no Justice in theocracies.
WHERE do you get that Rev. Wright is trying to turn the U.S. into a theocracy??! WHERE??!

Any vote that supports the religious right is pretty much a push for theocracy.
Rev. Wright is of the Religious Left. He's been tirelessly devoted to social justice for decades.

These baseless accusations are nothing more than character assassination and slander. And while Wright has certainly said things that I think go too far, this kinda crap makes it easier to see where he's coming from.

I don't see a cartoon in the OP, Phil. Just a box with an X.
