The Rapture a Glorious Event

Seems like a LDS thread to me, all but about 4 are LDS and the OP was on an LDS topic.
Oh Well! I am afraid the "Escapist mentality" exceedes good sense!
Why would one want to be whisked away and miss out on the blessings and treasure to be stored to the end? With the shield of "El Shaddai" think of the gospel that can be spoken in that time! I say no to "quiters", this is where the movers and shakers will shine. Go ahead an leave when there is great work to be done. Sit back on your cloud and see the workers of the living God, plowing fields, planting seeds and harvesting souls! Get out of the way you shirkers!!!! LOL

Opening post was just comparing these two versions of this true inspired scripture..

King James Version of Matthew 24: 41
Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

Joseph Smith Restored Version of Mathew 24: 41
Two shall be grinding at the mill, the one shall be taken, and the other left;

Of course there is much more to this short passage of scripture, but that's why I provided the link, of course, no need to post it all, pretty simple teaching...

Those closest to us may be left while the other is taken...

Thankfully there is a "second rapture" which is an evangelical term for an event called the the afternoon of the first resurrection in LDS theology.

Plus I added a little music video, one of my favorites, to go along with my thoughts on this..

Yes, I totally agree and that's why so many reject this clear glorious teaching of Christ's..

Funny, and I'm sure there will be many who will be brought to Christ during the period of time after the first rapture (morning of the first resurrection) when many will repent and come back to the fold and once again follow the "good shepherd" who is Jesus Christ.

reminder: The Rapture Is Not Lds Theology. I Have Never Heard That Word Spoken In An Lds Service. Ffh May Try To Equate The First Resurrection To The Rapture, But They Are Not The Same Thing. Lds Believe In The First Resurrection - Not The Rapture.
Looks like "they've" got you trained well..

The rapture/catching away/first resurrection is also there as plain as day in the Doctrine and Covenants (LDS scripture)

I don't see any difference, just the terms describing this event are different..

Why LDS members refuse to talk about this, is beyond me..

The theory is that we'll all gather in Missouri and await Christ's return...

Nonsense !!!!

Scriptures plainly teach otherwise...

Revelation paints a perfect picture of what will happen, read it !!!

Doctrine and Covenants 88: 96-98
96 And the saints that are upon the earth, who are alive, shall be quickened and be caught up to meet him.

97 And they who have slept in their graves shall come forth, for their graves shall be opened; and they also shall be caught up to meet him in the midst of the pillar of heaven—

98 They are Christ’s, the first fruits, they who shall descend (Read Revelation in order to understand this statement in green) with him first, and they who are on the earth and in their graves, who are first caught up to meet him; and all this by the voice of the sounding of the trump of the angel of God.

1 Thessalonians 4: 17
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Revelation 12: 5
And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

Doctrine and Covenants 27: 18
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of my Spirit, which I will pour out upon you, and my word which I reveal unto you, and be agreed as touching all things whatsoever ye ask of me, and be faithful until I come, and ye shall be caught up, that where I am ye shall be also. Amen.

Doctrine and Covenants 76: 102
Last of all, these all are they who will not be gathered with the saints, to be caught up unto the church of the Firstborn (first resurrection), and received into the cloud.

Doctrine and Covenants 101: 31
And when he dies he shall not sleep, that is to say in the earth, but shall be changed in the twinkling of an eye, and shall be caught up, and his rest shall be glorious.

Doctrine and Covenants 109: 75
That when the trump shall sound for the dead, we shall be caught up in the cloud to meet thee, that we may ever be with the Lord;

Moses 7: 27
And Enoch beheld angels descending out of heaven, bearing testimony of the Father and Son; and the Holy Ghost fell on many, and they were caught up by the powers of heaven into Zion.

Now from what I know and from watching the many Christian history show they jave on the History Channel, the first time the Rapture was talked about was some were in the 1700s. "This doctrine gained popularity in the 1830s, and more recently in the 1970s, with proponents of the premillenialist, and in particular the dispensationalist, interpretations of scripture. The origins of the doctrine of the rapture are hotly debated. The Orthodox, Reformed, and Roman Catholic churches have no tradition of such a teaching and reject the doctrine, in part because they cannot find any reference to it among any of the early Church fathers and because they interpret prophetic scriptures in an amillennialist fashion, as being more symbolic than literal."( info in the " are taken from wiki).
Some interesting stuff:
* 1792 - Shakers calculated this date

* 1843 - March 21 1843 predicted by William Miller founder of the Millerites, the failure of Jesus to appear on this date after his followers had sold all their possessions was referred to as The Great Disappointment.

* 1981 - Chuck Smith undogmatically predicted that Jesus would likely return by 1981.

* 1988 - Publication of 88 Reasons why the Rapture is in 1988, by Edgar C. Whisenant.

* 1989 - Publication of The final shout: Rapture report 1989, by Edgar Whisenant. More predictions by this author appeared for 1992, 1995, and other years.

*1992 - Korean group "Mission for the Coming Days" predicted October 28, 1992 as the date for the rapture.

* 1993 - Seven years before the year 2000. The rapture would have to start to allow for seven years of the Tribulation before the Return in 2000. Multiple predictions.

* 1994 - Pastor John Hinkle of Christ Church in Los Angeles predicted June 9, 1994. Radio evangelist Harold Camping predicted September 27, 1994.

* 1997 - Stan Johnson of the Prophecy Club predicted September 12, 1997.

* 1998 - Marilyn Agee, in The End of the Age, predicted May 31, 1998.

* 2000 - Many "millennial" predictions.

* 2006 - Many predictions for June 06, or 06/06/06

* 2060 - Sir Isaac Newton undogmatically proposed, based upon his calculations using figures from the book of Daniel, that the rapture could happen no earlier than 2060.

So far 0-12, only one more to go:D

Grimmjow, great post, I frubaled you for posting all that thx..

Okay now add to the list; tribulation starts fall 2006 and ends 2013, with rapture sometime in between, most likely half way through this final 7 year period..

We'll see what happens..

These dates are based on calculations from the prophecies of Daniel, from historical events..

I have a thread detailing this, will look for it later and post it here..

Guess some of us are just too bored and have nothing better to do...;)

The first resurrection/rapture will happen in the middle of the final 7 years spoken of by Daniel (

You will be pressed hard to find anything like this on the net, but yet these are not my calculations..

Summary of Daniel 12
In the last days Michael shall deliver Israel from their troubles—Daniel tells of the two resurrections—The wise shall know the times and meanings of his visions.

Daniel 12

1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people; and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time; and at that time thy people shall be delivered, everyone that shall be found written in the book.

2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness, as the stars forever and ever.

4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book even to the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

5 Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of the bank of the river.

6 And one said to the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?

7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth forever, that it shall be for a time, times, and a half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.

8 And I heard, but I understood not; then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?

9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel; for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety (1290) days.

12 Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty (1335) days.

13 But go thou thy way till the end be; for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.

And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away...

"This is referring to the reforms under king Josiah in 620 B.C. The Levites, who had been appointed by Moses to look after the Ark of the Covenant, fled the country and took the Ark with them. The events of this time are well researched and presented by Graham Hancock in his book The Sign and the Seal".

Daniel 12: 11
...and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety (1290) days).

Now add 1,290 years to 620 BC which brings us to 671 A.D. at which time there was a wooden mosque over the Holy of Holies, where the Jewish temple used to stand.

This prophecy in Daniel is centered around or directly related to the Jewish Temple Mount, where the Dome of the Rock is now, which is where the Holy of Holies was before the Jewish temple was destroyed in 70 A.D.

The prophet Mohammed died in 632 AD., and In the years after his death, his followers gained control of most of the Middle East..

638 A.D. Caliph Omar captures Jerusalem and starts to build on the Temple Mount, which is where the Holy of Holies is and the Ark of the Covenant/Ten Commandments used to rest, before the Jewish temple was destoyed

Then in 691 AD, the Dome of the Rock was commissioned, to replace the previous wooden structure.

So basically some sort of "abomination" was set up in the wooden mosque, in 671 A.D., where the Holy of Holies stood, where the Ark of the Covenant (Ten Commandments) was placed, where the Dome of the Rock now stands today.

Daniel 12: 12
Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty (1335) days.

Now add 1,335 years to 671 A.D. which brings us to 2006.

Calculation Summary

620 A.D. plus 1290 years (Daniel 12:11), which brings us to the year 671 A.D. then add 1335 years (Daniel 12:12) which brings us to the year 2006.

Now add 7 years to 2006, which obviously brings us to 2013.

Officially, the thread is open to everyone - not only LDS>

LDS don't belive in being "whisked away." That's the fundamental Chistian belief of the Rapture, which LDS don't believe in (unless you're FFH and he's blatantly wrong).

Who are "they" ???
Anyone who, or who would, consistently and persistenly continue to post silly LDS dislclaimers after reading my posts..

True, because they either don't read their own scriptures, concerning this, or they just choose to ignore them...

How is the rapture (a non-Biblical term, used to describe a Biblical sound doctrinal future event), inconsistent with the the Doctrine and Covenant (LDS) scriptures posted in post number 45 ???

The majority of my callings have been in teaching capacities; Primary, Sunday School, Young Mens, Elders Quorum, etc. and we can't forget home teaching..

We are all teachers to some degree or another..

Why would the Lord call me to so many teaching positions if I was so far off, as you suggest ???

So when when the New Testament and the Doctrine and Covenants use the phrase "caught up," what do you propose they are talking about ???

A non physical catching away, maybe just spiritually "caught up" perhaps ???

Nonsense...

What is so nonsensical about that? During the First Coming, Jesus taught many, and some were "caught up" spiritually and believed in Him, and others did not recognize Him and went about their usual business.

Yes, very true, many have been "caught up" into the heavens spiritually, their spirit temporarily leaving their body..

The "first resurrection" or "catching away" of the saints of God is not only a spirtual one, but a physical one as well.

Both body and spirit will be resurrected together, to stand in the presence of the Lord, to be "judged according the workds done in the flesh"..

Those who are part of this first resurrection, both the morning and the afternoon of the first resurrection, are called "Christ's at his coming" and will live with Christ a thousand years on earth, at which time the rest of those who were not called Christ's at his coming, will then be resurrected, in either the morning or the afternoon of the second resurrection..

This is sound LDS doctrine, of which Bruce R. McConkie spoke of in his book "Mormon Doctrine," as did James E. Talmage, in his book "Jesus the Christ" an official LDS doctrinally binding book.

I know my scriptures...

Feel free to challenge me.

This song and video suggest she's also waiting for the "catching away" of the saints..

There are many who sing of this event, by very subtly referring to it...

She stands, bags packed, looking upwards, towards the heavens..

Jewel | Down So Long lyrics

Jewel ~ Down So Long
The sun sets across the ocean
Im a thousand miles from anywhere
And my pocketbook and my heart
Both just got stolen
And the sun acts like
She dont even care
The wind blows cold
When you reach the top
Feels like someones face
Is stuck to the bottom of my shoe
I got a plastic Jesus
For every corner of my room
Got everybody but you
Telling me what to do

But Ive been down so long
Ooh, it cant be longer still
Ive been down so long
That the end must be drawing near

I look to everybody but me
To answer my prayers
Until I saw an angel
In a bathroom
Who said she saw no one
Worth saving anywhere
And a blind man on the corner
Said, its simple,
Like flipping a coin
Dont matter what side it lands onIf its someone elses dime

But Ive been down so long
Ooh, it cant be longer still
Weve been down for so long
That the end must be drawing near

I take a trip
I catch a train
I catch a plane
I got a ticket in my hand
And then a fat man takes my money
And like cattle we all stand

But weve been down so long
Ooh, it cant be longer still
Weve been down so long
The end must be...
I know the end must be...
Oh, I know the end must be
Drawing near

FFH,

If you're using McConkie's "Mormon Doctrine" as the basis for your beliefs, you're in more trouble than I thought.

The First Res. is NOT the Rapture. Believers are not going to suddenly dissappear as Fundie. Christians teach.

You're corrected because the LDS posters on this forum want to give accurate information to those who may be interested.

People can take words to mean anything, but this doesn't mean this is what you think it means. Look how many interpretations of the Bible there are.
