It doesn't lose its role.
Because when the Bible is talking about gold it is not talking about an earthly metal, it is talking about a heavenly symbolic position.
This is vague
Gold is used to symbolize earthly riches (Job 3:15; 22:24; Isaiah 2:7; Matthew 10:9; Acts 3:6; 20:33; Revelation 18:12). Finer than gold, which, physically speaking, is considered non-perishable, typifies incorruptibility (Acts 17:29; 1 Peter 1:7,18; 3:3; James 5:3).
So the gold of the law is better than gold.
Psalms
"And the words of the LORD are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined
seven times."
Acts 17:29
"Therefore since we are God's offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone – an image made by human design and skill."
Proverbs
"A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold."
So this justifies faith as replacement for gold in that graph.
Romans 3
"There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his
blood—to be received by
faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished—he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. Because of what law? The law that requires works? No, because of the law that requires
faith.Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too, since there is only one God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith. Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather,
we uphold the law.
So since we know that , Is Faith a gold?
As there are these 6 metals according to the symbolic law of the Bible:
"This is the ordinance of the law which the Lord commanded Moses; Only the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead" Numbers 31:21-22.
A law of lead through to gold:
Lead - Tin - Iron - Brass - Silver - Gold
See the Earth is the Iron, and above the Earth is the Brass heaven.
And thy heaven that is over thy head shall be brass, and the earth that is under thee shall be iron. Deuteronomy 28:23
Proverbs
"Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice
gold"
1 Corinthians 3
"For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with
fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work.If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.
What i see here is just another proof that the New Testament furtherly confirms the replacement of gold with faith.
So the Bible talks about the treasury:
"But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the Lord: they shall come into the treasury of the Lord". Joshua 6:19
But people misunderstood this.
Like remember that Earthly gold is just Iron according to the heavenly law.
So that is why James says this:
Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.
Because iron rusts. And their gold and silver was earthly.
So what Peter was referring to was people misunderstanding the gold mentioned in the OT.
Again , we differ in how we symbolize gold.
I agree in some way with your analogy, but the New Testament changes positions and replaces meanings.
That is my point with you all the time
So Peter was also reffering how to understand gold in the NT.
Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 1 Peter 1:18
I agree with this verse , Amen.
The law is better than gold.
Love is the fullfilment of the Law
Romans 13
"Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,”and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore
love is the fulfillment of the law.
"The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver". Psalm 119:72
The gold is just a symbol according to the law. It is a symbol that shares the same position as blood and wine.
if you apply the same rule faith replaces gold
Peter
"Your faith will be like gold that has been tested in a fire"
Both gold and silver are indicators of wealth in the OT and NT.
What kind of wealth is the question..
Revelation 3
"I counsel you to buy from me
gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see."

The Gold symbol is also in the same place as the Apple symbol.
Brass - Silver - Gold
Pomegranate - Fig - Apple
It is a golden apple.
Go on , explain how.
