There is no evidence for God, so why do you believe?

I don't know what to say. I also have spent a long time with God seemingly doing nothing and I know that it can be hard to carry on believing at times.

I believed in, had faith in, prayed to, sought after, held onto feeble hope, and waited for God for forty years. In the meantime, I suffered years of abuse as well as bullying and neglect while growing up. And as an adult, I deal with PTSD. I've suffered years of depression and anxiety, and had an eating disorder.

I'm ashamed to say that it took me forty years to figure that out and finally come to my senses.
Many ways I am such a stranger here at RF.

Religious beliefs played no role in my childhood.

Oh, there's dragons about, one is aware of
temples and incense and superstitions and
Santa Claus and Donald Duck but taking any of
it to heart, no!

So never anything to overcome.

It was only after made an expedition, like
Columbus, and discovered America that I
began understanding anything about Christianity,
and the strange effects it has on people.

Of course. I am still learning things.

Sorry to hear about your ordeal.

I've had mine though it has nothing to,do
with religion.

They say that at the resurrection we will find out that God was carrying us even when we thought He was doing nothing. It certainly can feel like He is doing nothing at times however even as we keep believing or even doubt or deny at times.

Yes, that is the story that they tell you. How do you test this claim?

" They" say all manner of things.
A person needs to have some capacity to
sort out what is realistic, credible.
So far these gods that " they" talk so
about continue, like Atlantis or Batboy, to
share all known characteristics with other
nonexistent things.

Please note the discovery of error correcting codes within the equations of symmetry is a rigorously proven theorem.

Is theoretical physicist James Gates’ intriguing discovery of error-correcting codes within the equations of supersymmetry accepted within the theoretical physicist community, and has it been corroborated by other physicists?

A.: The discovery is a rigorously proven theorem.

To be precise, the (error-detecting and error-correcting binary doubly-even linear block) codes were discovered/identified within the classification of worldline off-shell supermultiplets without central charge [On Graph-Theoretic Identifications of Adinkras, Supersymmetry Representations and Superfields, by C.F. Doran, M.G. Faux, S.J. Gates, Jr., T. Hübsch, K.M. Iga and G.D. Landweber: Int. J. Mod. Phys. A22 (2007) 869-930, arXiv:math-ph/0512016]. It was then proven that these (minimal) supermultiplets in turn encode the continuum of all possible worldline supermultiplets [On General Off-Shell Representations of Worldline (1D) Supersymmetry, by C.F. Doran, T. Hübsch, K.M. Iga and G.D. Landweber: Symmetry 6 no. 1, (2014) 67–88, arXiv:1310.3258]. See also my answer to “James Gates claims that he found code in string theory. Does that imply that we live in a simulation?”

If string theory proves to be a valid explanation for the fundamental constituents of the universe being one-dimensional “strings” rather than point-like particles, then this error correction code found within string theory could be a real indication of our simulated universe being controlled by a simulator ( aka God! )
From a PhD in string theory and mathematics

"
It is true that these types of self-correcting error codes can be found in the supersymmetric equations associated with string theory.

They can also be found in other exotic branches of mathematics such as E8 Lie algebras, topological sphere packing, octonions, lattices, and reflection groups. These codes are also found in the maths surrounding quantum computing, and may be a solution to decoherence problems. There is nothing particularly unique about them, and they are certainly not evidence that “The Matrix” is a documentary."

The universe can explore probabilities with a conscious creator. String theory isn't looking promising. But a general deism isn't what atheists are arguing against. It's theism and that has no evidence.
James Gates made this discovery many years ago, since people have understood they show up in modern math and are not as mind blowing as Gates would have us believe at first.
You cannot go "look, math in reality....therefore God". Doesn't work.

How do you know using knowledge that it is a worthless claim?
Even you should know this. First off, he admitted to it. A claim is worthless when it is of no assistance in an argument. It is just a random claim. It could be true. I would say that it is far far more likely to be false, but I will not declare it to be false since I do not have a way to test it either. It is merely an unsupported belief of his. I could imagine that a hypothetical poster's real name here was Susan Hayes (and no, I do not think this), that she was blonde, stacked, and cute as heck. That might make me feel good, but that fantasy will not help me in any debate.

I can't observe that a claim is worthless. The word worthless has no objective, external sensory properties and there is no instrument to meausre it.
All you are doing is expressing your subjective norms for worthless.
BTW I can't observe that you have rights or worth as a humans, so you are worthless. As for feelings if you have any, they are worthless as you are, because they can't be observed. ;) Even you as you are worthless, because you as you can't be observed. :D

Muffled

Jesus in me
I would have assumed that the word of God would have the power to convince the unbeliever that God or his son exists, but many a times it does just the opposite. It turns people against Bible. Nearly 5000 posts, 250 pages, and we are still unconvinced.

So? Does that prove God or the Bible story?
I believe it does not any more than the bones prove evolution. For me the proof is that God accepts the Bible and does not accept evolution.

Muffled

Jesus in me
You actually believe nothing can be verified
about evolution since we can't go back?

But bible- stuff can be.

Tinge of that double standard hypocrisy there.
I believe there is no hypocrisy. I have smething the scientists do not, a relationship with God who knows all things.

Muffled

Jesus in me
Nonsense.

The flood discussed in Genesis is clearly a global flood.

Nonsense.
I believe it Makes perfect sense. I believe that might not be so for people who can't reason things out.

I believe there is no evidence for a global flood. People say something is clear when they lack proof.

I believe it makes perfect sense. Trying to figure out what happened by supposition and observation seems to make sense but both methods are flawed.

Near Death Experience confirms there is life after death, I think that's what the majority of people want, it doesn't matter the small details.

I'm curious to know why you think that the majority of people want to have a near-death experience.
