No, he wouldn't. That is a Jewish law. The Romans did not give a fig about the laws or the religious beliefs of the people that they conquered. It was a Roman Crucifixion.

Read your Bible. They got it wrong of course because the Romans would have left him up.

How so? You sound a lot like a child that was just told that there was no Santa Claus. The ideas of Christianity should be more important than the myths of Christianity.

Perhaps he was. Perhaps he was a made up character by the author of Luke. But even if there was real person by that name but the time the Luke was written he was probably long dead and in the grave.

You are making the error of trying to use the Bible to prove the Bible. I could use the Harry Potter stories to prove that Harry Potter was real. You are aware that the author of Luke made up other parts of the Jesus story, aren't you?

The Bible says, whether you believe it or not, that he was TAKEN DOWN.

I know what the Bible says. Is this a fan fiction page? I was saying what almost certainly happened. The Bible got a lot of things wrong. Luke has Jesus born ten years after Matthew does. They both can't be right.
you mean like the KJV bible ? ya don't even get me started . its bad. works in a pinch but there are better ones out there

Sorry, that doesn't work. The argument you were making was, the Roman's wouldn't have followed the Jewish law. But the character in the story was Jewish, so that argument fails. It's obvious that the argument you were making was based on what's written, not based on any factual event. See below:

There you go. The argument you're making is "Read your bible. They got it wrong." Nope. They got it right, the person who took him down was Jewish, a councilor, which means he knew the law and was following it.

No, I am aware of the myth in the Bible. But Romans did not give a fig for Jewish holidays. Part of the punishment of crucifixion, what made it extremely gruesome and a lasting lesson for those it was aimed at, was that the body was left up. It is claimed to be Roman crucifixion in the Bible. Now Romans were not the only ones to crucify. The Jews did it at times too. It may not have been an official Jewish punishment, but there historical examples of them using this sort of execution. The Jews would have followed their own laws as to what was to be done with the bodies. The Romans would not have.

My argument does not fail because Jesus was Jewish. The correct response to that was, "So he was Jewish. So what?"

That also why I asked if you were treating the Bible as fan faction. Where one assumes that a story is true and builds on the fantasies. The earliest Gospel was written at least thirty years after the crucifixion. No eyewitnesses appear to have been involved. A rich guy, that you only hear of in the Bible asked them to take the body down. Is that all that you have?

Ignored... irrelevant.

Clearly you have lost touch with this exchange. We are talking about Joseph of Aramathea. The Romans put Jesus up, a Jew took him down which is consistent with Jewish law. Your argument was "Read your Bible. They got it wrong of course because the Romans would have left him up." This is a fail. The Romans would have left him, and a Jew would have taken him down.

They ( the authors of the Christian bible ) got it right. You got it wrong.

yeah , and how was that done
Hi. As has been pointed out the Jews considered it wrong to leave a dead man overnight like that. Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea arranged for the body of Jesus to be taken down. After his death. I hope that helps to explain.
John 19:38-40
38 Now after these things, Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus but a secret one because of his fear of the Jews, asked Pilate if he could take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took the body away. 39 Nicodemus, the man who had come to him in the night the first time, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes weighing about a hundred pounds.40 So they took the body of Jesus and wrapped it in linen cloths with the spices, according to the burial custom of the Jews.

how do you get a dead man down from a pole ? i presume the same way he was put up . if you think its hard to stand a pole with a man on it ,it has to be far harder to get him down . or not ,saw the pole off and let it fall . not like he's going to get hurt

I wasn't there but we must all draw our own conclusions from the scriptural account, especially at John chapter 19, which states that Nicodemus asked permission of Pilate to take the body (not the body and the stake). Since Jesus and Shimon carried the stake to the execution place, it's hard to say exactly how it happened. It's kind of gruesome to think about. He (not his body and the stake) was buried in a nearby tomb. I don't know how they got the body off the stake. Or if they took the whole stake down. We know the stake was carried to the execution place. We know it was a terrible and painful way to die. Glad you asked because I looked at the account again and learned more, so thanks.

@cataway I looked at Mark 15, and see it says the following: "But Pilate wondered whether he could already be dead, and summoning the army officer, he asked him whether Jesus had already died. 45 So after making certain from the army officer, he granted the body to Joseph. 46 After he bought fine linen and took him down, he wrapped him in the fine linen and laid him in a tomb that was quarried out of rock; then he rolled a stone up to the entrance of the tomb."

What makes you think that the writers of the Bible got it right? When you are wrong you have a tendency to not to listen so I will explain it to you again. The crucifixion is claimed to be Roman. Now the Jews did crucify too sometimes, but that was not the case according to the Bible writers. If it was a Jewish crucifixion they would have followed Jewish laws. But the Romans did not care about those laws. The law broken would have been a Roman one and a Roman punishment would have applied. They would not allow the body to be taken down since leaving them up was part of the punishment. And Joseph of Aramathea appears to be just another fictional Bible character. There is no record of him outside of the Bible or in legends that did not get formed until over a century after the Gospels were written.

That is why my "So what?" answer was the right one and also it was a question that you could not answer.

yes i know he was taken down .that's not the question . i am wondering about the mechanics of it. my self i have built buildings using pole constriction .tipicly called pole barns, also used in building decks. i have stood poles and ,removed poles for what ever reason ,dodo happens.
did it with out machinery.
it was in the Law that the one hung-up was not to remain there all night . i know how to remove a pole from the hole its plated in .i should like to think they back then would also know . perhaps it was such common knowledge it seamed irrelevant . there are no empty standing execution poles left standing and by the way no crosses either. things do get lost to history ,i am wondering if the trick to pulling a pole from the ground was also lost.

No, you do not "know" that. If you have only the Bible that is merely a belief.
