How would you feel if an AI got elected? Welcome the Synth party.

I don't think it would happen because AI, no matter how advanced, doesn't possess consciousness and is therefore unaware of its own existence and "emotions," unlike humans. We can't elect an AI to govern us when we can simply shut it off at any point. Instead, we can use it to help us govern ourselves, which is already happening at an increasing pace.

I don't think an AI could be much worse than some of the politicians we see in positions of power, though...

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.

I see AI incorporated already in politics. Just how far it will go is the million dollar question.

I really do think some country somewhere in the world might go for it.

Are you sure? We don't really know what consciousness is and how it is formed in the brain. If there is no magic involved and consciousness is just a function of a highly complex brain, there is no reason why an AI can't have consciousness.

It won't be AI that governs us. It will be people using AI tools. Mot likely private equity draining all value from society and replacing it with coercion, surveillance, and manipulation.

AI will be used by government, most probably already is. Elected though, I don't think so while there is so much misunderstanding and distrust of AI.

Maybe in the future it would become a posi

That is in effect a belief in wetware being special and not possible for hardware. Now there are problems with the software and if it is possible to make a software version for human behaviour, but we can't rule that out as such.

I was just outside for a walk, and in getting acclimated to the weather, which was 9 degrees F, I fumbled with my phone, and absentmindedly cursed at it, when it brought up the virtual assistant. Well, the virtual assistant actually replied that I shouldn't be so rude! What is that! I went on to look up if there are any ramifications for me having cursed, albeit accidentally or inadvertently, at the ahuman virtual assistant. It turns out that some articles say that it can seep toward the ears of employers, or something, and maybe get you fired?

Now what if it was like a branch I had cursed at, that had poked me, within earshot of the virtual assistant? How would the v. assistant know that I directed my 'misbehavior' at it? And yet, it would still probably respond in an effort to regulate me, despite no one else being around, or nothing else, except the dead twig that poked me

And granted, in thinking about it, I don't think people should be mean to robots, or computer devices, and they probably should tone down how annoyed they are in general, as it would be a 'net positive.' But once those devices want to regulate you, it gets weird real quick. I thought it was 'just a phone,' but now I am starting to think it is something else

Nearly half of the electorate are already automatons so I suppose it would be fitting. However, an IA wouldn't be bigoted or anti-science unless preprogrammed to be so. They would also be incapable of religious or nationalistic fervor.

That is just an example of a program picking up specific phrases and responding in a predetermined manner. It doesn't mean it's aware or conscious beyond a very algorithmic context.

I don't know that it could never be conscious. I'm talking about the current state of AI, where even its most advanced forms available today are nowhere near being conscious.
