What Do You Find Beautiful About Your Religion?

Some Kind of Strange
We are all at a certain place in our lives. And where we're at may depend on the things around us, the people we've known, or the paths we've chosen. Each of us are different and unique from the rest. And as we explore ourselves and find a place where we fit religiously, there's bound to be something about it for us to reflect on. Something that shows you the beauty of humanity, Mother Earth, the universe, or life in general.

So I ask, what is it about your religion that reflects beauty to you? If there is a picture or symbol that represents this, I encourage you to put it in your post.

Beautiful? .......well......thats a toughie...i would have to say the balance and inner peace it instills, since you need to have balance of the mind and body to effectively manipulate and feel the death essence, other then that it is our affinity for death itself, and our acceptance of death that is also beautiful in its own morbid ways. plus there is a certain beauty in seeing a necromancer (or doing one yourself) perform a conjuration ritual, reaching across realms to try and convince a spirit to show, and ancient languages, the flowing robes, the sweat beading on the forehead, and all of the energy coalescing in one intense moment when the practitioner throws his/hers arms in the air and shouts "arise!" it is something i cannot fully explain, you would have to see it yourself.

EDIT-- oh and ZH...dance!! (look at the religion titles to get the joke)

If Secular Humanism can be a Religion...

I would say the beauty is the being able to have morals without anyone telling me to.

As an Atheist, I wouldn't really count as a religous person, depending of course upon your definition of religion. But nonetheless, I find it beautiful and liberating in a way to no longer fear punishment or redemption after death. I am rewarded/ punished in the here and now for what I do/ don't do, and don't have to worry about the ultimate big brother looking over my shoulder. Freedom is beautiful and priceless.

Not your average Mormon
To me, the most beautiful thing about my religion is that it teaches me that there is a Higher Power, a Father in Heaven, who knows me personally and cares about every aspect of my life.

The most beautiful thing that I have found so far about my religion is that I don't have to take anyone else's word on anything. Any truth that I want to know, I know I can go to my Heavenly Father and ask in Prayer and I can know for myself what is truth.

My favorite scripture (found in the Book of Mormon) is Moroni 10:5--
"And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things."

prayer is the most beautiful thing to me- for me it offers forgiveness, the call to mindfulness, and nearness to God's presence through word.

there is this cool image i want to share...

i love the joining hands... they are childrens' hands, and i work with children often. kids are amazing- they can show you more about faith and strength than any book or adult. the image reminds me that we have to work our faith in a positive way- not just hold ideas or creeds in our heads. the six hands is also significant. the prayer i recite as my practice has six lines, and finding this image was even more cool because of this.

The feeling of connection to everything and everyone. To feel the wonder in the sensation and sound of the rippling water, the breeze on my face, the sun on my skin, the smell of the flowers in the air, and to know that all of it is a part of me and I a part of it. To cherish all that nature is and what it provides to sustain me.

The love, the hope, the encouragement that I feel everyday of my life. My Father in Heaven wants me to succeed, He wants me to be happy and He wants for me to return to Him. Just that amazing feeling keeps me going sometimes. Even though it's a still, small feeling, it still has gotten me through the hardest times of my life.

The community that I share. We are all believers, but we also have diversity in our lives. We come from around the globe, but we all believe in the same God, and believe that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. We may be black, white, brown, yellow and polka-dotted, but we all believe it. Our interest may vary and we may be on all areas of the political spectrum, but we believe in God.

The amazing power of the atonement. That's the best thing. It saves me from having to pay for my own sins, because my Saviour Jesus Christ did that for me.:)

God is present in all of creation - we are never alone. We are all equal in his eyes and he loves us unconditionally. We all came from him and will all return to him. Also - God is Mother and God is Father, best friend, brother etc. God is the soul of the universe. He is in everyone and everything. Everyone and everything is in him. Even when we think that no one understands, he does and he knows what our hearts want - even before we ask for it. His love is pure and sacred. He never gives us more than we can handle; even in the most difficult times, he knows what we're going through and is with us every step of the way. When we take one step towards him, he comes running to us. The Bhagvad Gita says that if we put our faith and devotion in him, he will PERSONALLY TAKE CARE of all our needs. Without God - we can do nothing. God is my everything!

Three related things:

1. Diversity. The fact that when I go to church I worship with people of different ethnicities, sexual orientations, ages and beliefs, all united in our common desire to be in community with each other. I believe that diversity exists because God loves diversity, and my religion reflects this love.

2. Hope. Basically, a love for diversity means that I and others will always have a home, a place where we are welcome. No one is excluded just because they don't fit social norms.

3. Justice. My religion works to lift up those who are oppressed because of their differences. This is integral to our faith. And justice to me is very beautiful. :)

What Do You Find Beautiful About Your Religion?

My freedom, peace and happiness in Jesus and his Church. Our Churches dependance and personal realtionship with the Trinity:bow: and all the ways God's church offers his grace for that personal relationship via..the sacraments, intercession of the Blessed Mother and saints, sacramentals, prayerlife, and Liturgy, scripture study, and the writings of the ancient fathers and councils. Most of all the grace I recieved from Jesus (Via.. all of the above mentioned things) to overcome former addictions and renew my life to a new brighter freedom.

I can't very well post a picture, because the beauty of my religion is all around - nature; plants, trees, flowers, animals. I guess the most beautiful though are the very young - be they human or animal.

She Who is Lost
For me, the beauty of my faith is the feeling of being a part of this beautiful world - created to live within it, not hold dominion over it.

For me beauty is in the 'simple things' - the sound of a rushing river, or the wind rustling through leaves. The antics of a magpie or the majestic outline of a soaring hawk. The elegance of a deer - in life and death. Pure laughter. The brightness of the stars on the darkest night. In feeling the power and gentlenes of a horse. I could go on and on.

See, it's everything - the little things, the big things - the joy of the world that we live in. Yes there is great suffering and saddness, but it only takes a glance outside at a squirrel running along a fence to see that for all the awful things that happen, life goes on, and will continue to go on. It may sound odd, but standing out in the wilderness, confronted by a bear who may or may not attack, is one of the few times where I can truly feel at peace. The knowledge that I could live or die as part of the natural cycle is comforting - my only fear is for the bear, who will be hunted down and murdered for the "injustice and crime" of killing me.

I just don't think that I'm expressing this as fully as I can. Heh, I don't really know how to describe it! People around me call it weird. "It's just a stupid bird with a pinecone." "Ew! That's a skeleton, don't touch it!" "Do you have to take pictures every time you see a bird/elk/coyote? You look like a bloody tourist!" But it is the beauty of my faith. I feel sorry for those people who can't stop for a moment and appreciate that vast complexity and great beauty that exists in the 'simple things in life.'

The diversity. :) There are so many different people, from every imaginable background around the world, who are Muslim.

Even just considering my own people - there are probably as many countries in this world with a Bosniak community as there are without one.

In a general sense, some of the aspects of Islam I consider most beautiful are charity and devotion.

Charity is such an important part of being a practicing Muslim and it's something I am proud to do regardless of faith, so I appreciate and admire Islam greatly for placing such importance on charity. Devotion is more or less universal throughout the Muslim world - even the worst Muslims I know believe in God and are conscious of Islam, even if they're not living it responsibly right now. When you look at Muslims truly living by the teachings of their faith, the level of devotion is astounding.

In a cultural sense, that is the practice of Islam among my own people, I consider most beautiful our traditional level of tolerance - especially as it concerns Jews and Jewish heritage in Bosnia and Herzegovina, since that is perhaps the most obvious expression of our tolerance given the situation in the wider Muslim world. I am also very proud of our traditional focus on substance rather than ritual.

Greetings!

As a Baha'i what I find beautiful about the Baha'i Faith is its unity and inclusiveness, including its recogntion of and respect for other religions!

And in addition, the beauty and clarity of its scriptures (especially when compared with those of the past).

IME the folks in it tend to be pretty neat, too!

Best, :)

Simplicity and the allure of a puzzle waiting to have the pieces put together... With no revelations or conversations and only the single clue that is our universe, we get to try our hand at solving the mystery in a way that makes sense. There is always more to learn.
