Dealing With Dread

How do you get ready for stuff you hate/dread doing?
Regarding chores, I do them all as soon as I get up and try not to think about it until they are all done... it is a routine.
Regarding other things like business matters, I often ignore them until I absolutely have to deal with them.

That's the way it is with the cats.... I finally get tired of doing cat dishes and put all the dishes in the dish pan and all the food on the newspaper and call it a day.

I scatter the food all over the floor at night, so they all have to 'hunt' for it, and no one cat can hoard it all.

I want to know how to deal with 'dread' as well, so that is a question I might ask the tarot of marsielle. Hm..

I think it might be a fairly ubiquitous problem, taking many forms. There is always something to 'dread' in the impasse, in the human's movement through time. It is a universal and ubiquitous problem

So this analysis isn't for you specifically, or anyone. I would never solicit a reading on someone. It's just me looking at the cards, and thinking about them. I could be completely wrong

So apparently, what I am visualizing is Change on the left (13) facing Judgement (20), and the Hermit on the right (9) facing judgement. Judgement is in the middle, then. I think it represents the two 'armies' or 'tools' that the individual has, to combat judgement.

The Change card obviously signifies the human ability to morph, to recycle and regrow, and march on through whatever weird and stiff terrain they tread through. I guess anything and everything seems to become a seed, born into something new. So this is one maneuver toward judgement, on one side. Adaptability, change

On the other side of judgement is the Hermit, who takes a fundamentally different approach, I think. He seems to represent an appeal to a more pure form of spiritual thought, humility, and acceptance, I guess. Maybe this is more of a 'stoic' approach to judgement, I'm not totally sure. The hermit's gnarled forehead is rippling with thought, and his body is protected by a massive blue blanket of tranquility

As for Judgement itself, yeah, it can potentially be terrifying I suppose. The angel seems to judge humans for what they create. Its wings seem to even have a bit of blood on them, among other colors, and this might show where failure can sometimes lead. It also has wings of deep blue; of protection, and intelligent yellows, and skin colored wings, representing adequacy, I think

Now I don't totally know if I am correct in any of this, I would have to think on it more. Please don't think I'm an expert of any kind, I'm just trying to think about the problem.

I actually find that really interesting. It seems one(anyone, with any problem of dread, I would imagine) could take up the path of change; going with the flow, so to speak, or withdrawal.

I like it.

I have been dragging my feet here on RF long enough... the time of the dreaded task draws near.

Wish me luck, and keep me in your thoughts/prayers, and especially at the butt of your jokes!

I'm not complaining... just sayin' this is how I lost my attachment to the idea of being 'done', and why I'm perfectly comfortable resting amidst uncompleted jobs.

Being "retired", I don't see the point of ANYTHING needing to be done 'right freaking now'. It'll get done, when I get AROUND to getting it done. There ARE of course, exceptions for things which themselves are completely out of my control.....like the wind blowing a tree branch down breaking a window, or the cat barfing in the middle of the kitchen floor.

Today is a day of doing stuff I don't want to do.

Normally, a day contains stuff I don't like doing, like loading the dishwasher, wiping up spilled drinks, picking garbage off the kitchen floor that the cat has knocked over for the 87th time(same cat, every time), or even dealing with a super-mega fit from the 8 year old, but this day has a few "I really don't want to do that" things.

How do you get ready for stuff you hate/dread doing?

That is but human.

Several things a person can potentially do -

1. The kids being topmost priority over the dishwasher and mess of course, do not let those other things bog you down while they need your attention "I have to do this and that and that..."

Play board games with the kids - you have the excuse to not do those chores yet.
Have them do some fun chores themselves
Backyard science while weeding garden / watering plants

2. Tell yourself the things that are not the end of the world can wait until 4 pm. Give yourself until 4 pm after that sugar snack break -- your anxiety over "not getting things done" will have vanished by then. The procrastination that began in the morning , once you give the mind enough time , it will cooperate.

3. Consider a small close-swing-lid can on a kitchen countertop corner instead of the floor - hopefully your cat will less likely knock it 10 leave alone 87 times

3.5 Do not lament over spilt juice.

4. Play bhajans while you do chores. Do you like bhajans, kirtans? I can send you a few.
Dance as you mop, but careful - do not slip. Watch BhAgvat kathA if you understand the language

5. Knock knock! Look who is here! Why do you worry? :yellowheart::blueheart: Sending KAnhU your way.

You will eventually get those non-urgent things done because it is in your "svabhAv" trust me.

Really, the chores don't bother me much... except cleaning out the stove, and I don't know why! So I just don't do it, and the stuff burns off and blows away. I don't fret over a mess, really... I have 3 sons, 10 cats, and 3 dogs, so there is mess. Sometimes there is more mess, and sometimes there is less mess, but there it is.

I do like to sing bhajans, but I sure don't know many to sing! I find it hard to listen to music and work, because my house is big, and I don't have anything portable to listen to it on(I don't have a smartphone). So, I gotta learn 'em and sing 'em myself. Which do you think would be easiest to learn?

What I was dreading today was more event related; one was an appointment, and another was a gathering that I really didn't want to be a part of. The appointment went well, and the gathering went as about expected; no worse, no better.

But you are right... with Krishna, there is nothing much to worry about. Some things are unpleasant, but that is the nature of some things... no sense in dreading it.

How do you post here? Do you have a laptop that can be carried?
A mini CD player ? That will also give you a nice collection to keep - and you will be returning the favor to those who contributed to bringing it to you.

Please come to the DIR - I replied here - Bhagvad Oasis Post #9 - so we have the collection in the DIR itself.

Take Krishna with you.

Take Krishna with you.

I post from a laptop. :) It is portable, but not very good for listening to stuff on while cleaning(been there, done that) 'cause I go from room to room frequently(take dish to kitchen, take clothes downstairs, take box to kitchen, take garbage outside, etc) and it doesn't get very loud.

I haven't got a CD player, other than in my van. I could always collect CDs for that, though!

Because this yuck event will be weekly for awhile, I think the idea of taking Krishna with me is a good one. I will have something either on me or nearby that reminds me of him, so if I start feeling too upset, I'll see it and be reminded that he's not far. :)

It depends on my frame of mind, on a good day i just start cleaning even before I reach the thought of "I don't want to do this"

Other times, I am like "leave it until tomorrow" but tomorrow isn't always the next day in this case
