Well, what do you know. A judge has ruled that parents and local officials should have a say in what goes on in school. This case is interesting because it used to be that the right was all about local control and the left in more centralized authority. This is no longer the case as this lawsuit illustrated. And, naturally, this cuts both ways.

Florida Judge Throws Out Gov. Ron DeSantis' Order Prohibiting Masks In Schools

In court this week, lawyers for the parents say DeSantis' order violates a constitutional requirement that districts operate schools that are safe and secure. The state maintains parents have the ultimate authority to decide what's best for their kids. The judge's ruling allows school districts to require masks.

The irony is that conservatives have traditionally stood for limited government and more local decision making, but DeSantis, Abbott, and some other red-state governors have acted more like authoritarians as they want to micromanage local communities and even individual school districts. Thus, they talk-the-talk of conservatism but don't walk-the-walk themselves.

When I see Republic actions that seem inconsistent with their stated beliefs, I repeat this phrase to myself:

Fascism seeks to maintain power regardless of political norms.

... and then ask myself if it still seems inconsistent.

So far, it's resolved every Republican inconsistency I've come across.

And not to mention they are usually more the ones talking about sacrifice and doing for your country.

Really...nothing?
I'm giddy with schadenfreude.
But then, I'm a jerk.
Not entirely nothing. But I'm ready for some different Darwin Award winners.
I guess it's more accurate to say I still feel no pitty, sympathy, empathy, sorrow, or any other such things.
Now, if it was someone I liked, like Jane Goodall, then I'd be really sad. Especially since she likely has been adhering to covid guidelines.

Very unfortunate. Now we'll see a bunch of chaotic, angry school board meetings.
