Panera Employee Allegedly Fired for Pagan Beliefs

Orbit

I'm a planet

This is the exact topic that my current research is on (I'm a sociologist). In an exploratory survey I conducted, (N=250), just under half of Pagan respondents reported microaggressions, insults, or harassment at work. Everything is fine until they let it slip that they are Pagan, and those who get fired (a small minority in my survey (14)) are fired under some other pretext.

In my Pagan days, I only had issue once.

I worked in a group home, and one day one of the other staff asked me about Paganism and what it is. A nurse that had never cared for me overheard and interrupted, stating "It means she sacrifices chickens on her altar." Very calmly, I told him he was being ridiculous. He had been working with me enough years to know I was vegetarian, and should by now realize I sacrifice veggie burgers on my altar.

He didn't see it coming, and laughed and laughed, and contemplated what a vegetarian sacrifice would look like...

We got along fine from that point on.

I had one major issue one time it wasn't at work...my grandmother believed and still believes me to be demon possessed cuz of my religion. Called the pastor asking for an excorism. Nothing came of it cuz of covid tho.

I'm still chuckling about a vegetarian pagan sacrificing veggie burgers. I suppose you hunt as well bringing down big game carrots and broccoli.

If I want to make it seem bloody, I crush tomatoes.

With my bare hands.

Remember though that Panera is a franchised company.
There are different owners for different restaurants.
I wonder what the owner will be doing to the manager?

Exactly. Panera corporate is furious about this, I'd guess.

Sad and pathetic stuff like that still happens.

No doubt. I myself didn't know religious persecution until I left the church, amd it came from the very same people who had warned me it was the world would be out to persecute me for my beliefs. Bit turns out they were the judgemental pricks all along.
It's why I really don't doubt the "other side" is what she said. That kind of mentality is why I don't live in Indiana anymore. Because people high on Jesus are some of the worst people out there.

Guess I won't be frequenting there anymore...
Because of an allegations in a lawsuit?

I guess you better stop going to Target, wearing underwear by Hanes, eating at McDonalds, having your taxes done by HR Block and so on. EVERYONE gets sued. Doesn’t mean the allegations are true.

Do tell, how in your sociology research do you credibly determine the pretext?
