The Active Denial System (ADS), otherwise known as a “heat ray,” doesn’t actually burn any skin. This weapon can disperse a crowd of rioters by firing a narrow beam of electromagnetic energy on the skin of its target without causing permanent damage to anybody. I'd like the Active Denial System to be used against any insurrectionist crowd threatening to harm President Biden or Vice President Harris on their inauguration day.

Of course any insurrectionist targeted is going to scream blue murder that the military are denying them the right to commit acts of terrorism.

Am I the only one who finds a tad bit ironic the fact that a poster with an icon of a revolutionnary communism as avatar is happy abouut the State developping ever more sophisticated weapons to disperse crowds of protestors. The most dangerous weapons aren't always those that kill the most, but those you have the least qualms in using.

I'm not sure why you think it ironic: the major communist powers (USSR, PRC) and even minor ones (N Korea) did not and do not like popular protests, and in fact pioneered methods of crowd control. I'm sure despots everywhere are trying to steal American crowd control technology.

People should be very, very careful about the conditions under which they would approve state violence against citizens.

I'm not in principle against such weapons being used on insurrectionists and rioters but I'm concerned about them being used on protestors or just people in the way when people like Trump want a photo op.

“Active Denial System” by Megadrive

The device you mentioned (and others like it) could probably help resolve some issues in DC, as well as places like Portland, Oregon.

Is this really something you want?

There is no wrong answer.
