Several weeks ago, I was informed by a person I trusted -- and who I had never been given reason not to trust -- that an overwhelming weight of science-based evidence had been amassed to the effect that the vast majority of Trump voters were primarily motivated by racism in voting for Trump. I was further told that the science was pretty much settled on the issue.
I passed that information along to Rfers in a thread on the subject.
Yesterday, I learned from the same person that there is new and emerging evidence to the effect that, while a large number of Trump supporters were most likely motivated by racism, "a significant percentage of Trump voters show no evidence of having been motivated by racism in voting for Trump". In short, the science on the subject is still unsettled, despite that I was told it was settled.
Consequently, I owe you all an apology for passing along misinformation on such an important topic.
