Thinking about the stonewalling etc that Trump is doing now to prevent facts from being uncovered and testimony given, I'm reminded some something I've seen over and over again: "The cover-up is worse than the crime".
An internet search will find many different examples of this from Watergate through financial misdeeds and other situations.
For example, if Nixon had not tried to cover up Watergate but had admitted that some underlings had done wrong, he most likely would never have been impeached. The cover-up was in his case what took him down.
If the Catholic church had not covered up sexual abuse by priests but taken action, the world-wide furor would never have happened.
The examples are endless.
Now Trump is following in those sordid footsteps which of course increases the assumption that he has something very serious he's trying to hide and thus increasing the number of people who support the impeachment investigation.
And presumably there will be a number of "obstruction of justice" counts as well.
