God is Holy

In the Bible God is called holy and in some passages not only once, but three times...holy, holy, holy. It is the only attribute of God which is repeated three times together. From what I have researched, if something is mentioned twice it is very important and when something is mentioned three times it is incredibly significant and important.
The word holy in Hebrew is “qodesh” and in the New Testament, the word for holy is “hagios” with meanings, such as; set-apart, separate, exclusive, sacred, worthy of reverence, pure, completely unique and transcendent because God is above every created thing.

What are your thoughts? Does the holiness of God impact you in any way?

When someone tends to repeat a single word in that manner, I usually get the impression that the individual is attempting to place more importance on it than it actually has.

Since I am an atheist, I personally am not affected by god in any way.

the idea of holiness I find to be very motivating, someone that wonderful stirs the imagination. I had a God belief back as a child, and though ive grown out of religion, the impression of what or whom is holy has never left me.

it's almost unfathomable

I just recall the idea that if you repeat something often enough, folks will start to believe it.

Since there's not a lot of facts wrt religion one must use whatever sophistry they can muster.

I suppose "Holy" implies a sense of sacredness. I don't do sacred myself

I wasn't aware that this holiness had been established. The wording of a collection of ancient, tribal documents doesn't establish anything. For that matter, they don't even establish the existence of God.

Literature has lots of ancient documents talking about all sorts of different divine beings, spirits and mythical creatures.

I can certainly understand your perspective. Since you say your are an atheist, then why would you feel personally affected by God in any way? Yet, if there is a Creator God who is holy then I think the holiness of God would carry monumental consequences for every person on earth, whether atheist or not, believer or not. Just my thoughts.

Do you think holiness has any practical applications?

"Worthy of reverence" implies to me that you have judged God and found him worthy. Do you agree?

Yes, there are many ancient documents talking about lots of divine beings, spirits, and gods, yet the God of the Bible claims to be the only true Creator God and that there are no other gods. The biblical scriptures are the only scriptures which are based in historical narrative and set forth prophetic events before they happen, all of which so far have proven to be accurate. Only the true Creator God would know and accurately be able to provide information concerning the future, but that would be a subject for another thread.

for me it's an aspiration. I suppose it might make you happier, more at peace. I suppose it would change lives who care about the same things.

worthiness, and compassion. it frankly sounds like a fantasy to be in the presence of someone so ideal. humans just ain't ideal, far from it we are.

What does "sacred" mean to you and what do you mean you don't do sacred?

If there is a God who is holy and humans aren't, as you say, do you think this God may have created humans with the possibly in mind for a way so they could aspire to holiness so that it is not only a fantasy?

I love it when people actually do research instead of just making things up. Would you mind citing your source(s) so that we might all evaluate the reasoning involved? Thanks.

What does "scared" mean to you and what do you mean you don't do scared?

You mean sacred?
Mostly, you are not to question its divine authority. You are required to respect and venerate it.

I just mean I tend to question everything folks hold holy.

I'm anti-authoritarian so I dislike being told I have to accept something without a reasonable explanation of why I need to accept it.
