My Local Town Votes to Remove Confederate Battle Flag

I made an edit, the seal displayed is the old one with the battle flag. They have not released the new one yet. Just a FYI.

Let's just rip up the history books while we're at it and eliminate any reference to the confederacy. and anything with a southern sounding name might offend someone so all those will have to be changed. all statues will have to go and why not pave over the cemetaries where southern soldiers are buried and turn them into malls

No one is suggesting any of that. Where did you get those ideas?

I'm not sure what is going on here. It seems like the city is redesigning it's seal to be less divisive. That's reasonable.
Stars and Bars has become a symbol of discord. Both sides have their reasons for seeing it as they do. But what it mostly does now, in the 21st century, is start fights. That is highly inappropriate for a totally optional government seal.
Maybe I am misunderstanding what this is about. The phrase "putting in it's place" is quite vague.

The seal has four flags represented in the picture. As of today, the Confederate Battle Flag takes up the bottom left section. They have voted to remove that flag and put the traditional Confederacy Flag in it's place. It looks like this:

That is the question, right? Historians will still argue that any representation of the Confederacy can be construed as supporting of slavery. However, I would guess that 95% of the American population could not pick out the Confederate Flag in a lineup, they would pick the Confederate Battle Flag every time. I think this might help, since the masses do not typically associate the official flag with racism.

A small southern town might get away with it. But if the state took up the same 'solution' I could see it leading nowhere.

Right, that is why it is a very small step, but I believe they ultimately missed the point.

Perhaps the joke is the pretensions to the Confederacy?
For better or worse it was crushed. Why does anyone feel the need to incorporate the symbols into a new, 21st century, city logo?
Why not just sell the rights to design it to Verizon and at least make a little money. Or, y'all could design one that is as inclusive and future oriented as possible. Why choose to celebrate some ugly past?
