Watchtower Governing Body: Are They The Exclusive Channel For God??

This translation was used occasionally in support of renderings of Matthew 27:52, 53 and John 1:1, as given in the New World Translation and other authoritative Bible versions. But as indicated in a foreword to the 1980 edition of The New Testament by Johannes Greber, this translator relied on “God’s Spirit World” to clarify for him how he should translate difficult passages. It is stated: “His wife, a medium of God’s Spiritworld was often instrumental in conveying the correct answers from God’s Messengers to Pastor Greber.” The Watchtower has deemed it improper to make use of a translation that has such a close rapport with spiritism. (Deuteronomy 18:10-12) The scholarship that forms the basis for the rendering of the above-cited texts in the New World Translation is sound and for this reason does not depend at all on Greber’s translation for authority. Nothing is lost, therefore, by ceasing to use his New Testament."

Without wresting the Greek grammar, a translator can render Matthew 27:52, 53 in a way that suggests that a similar exposing of corpses resulted from the earthquake occurring at Jesus’ death. Thus the translation by Johannes Greber (1937) renders these verses: “Tombs were laid open, and many bodies of those buried there were tossed upright. In this posture they projected from the graves and were seen by many who passed by the place on their way back to the city.”—Compare the New World Translation.

*** w76 4/15 p. 231 Insight on the News *** Watchtower 1976
● The recent Guatemalan earthquake affected even some of those already dead. “Time” magazine reports that “several mourners who went to bury their dead in family plots found that the coffins of long-dead relatives had been uncovered by the quake.” Something similar occurred during an earthquake in the Jerusalem area at Jesus’ death. At that time, dead bodies were customarily placed in vaults or chambers cut from Palestine’s soft limestone rock, often in hillsides. A report in the Bible, as translated by Johannes Greber, says that when Jesus died, “the earth quaked, and the rocks were shattered. Tombs were laid open, and many bodies of those buried there were tossed upright. In this posture they projected from the graves and were seen by many who passed by the place on their way back to the city.” Hence, rather than a resurrection, as some Bible translations imply, there appears to have been merely an exposure of the dead to observers, as in Guatemala.—Matt. 27:51-53.

Why, in recent years, has The Watchtower not made use of the translation by the former Catholic priest, Johannes Greber?

The wording of this question reeks of editorial department.

If this was a real question from a real reader it would be more like, " Why doesn't the Watchtower use Johannes Grebers translation anymore?

If you believe my opinion to be in error, please re-read their questions through out their publications.

The Two Witnesses are Moses and Jesus.

The Old Covenant and the New Covenant. Both point to the same exact things.

And so to be sure one understands, one must take the time to compare the two until they find the way the two agree upon.

Only the things they agree upon are God's truth. If one or the other disagrees with our understanding, then we are wrong.

The Old Covenant and The New Covenant are not The Old Testament and The New Testament but means the spirit of the messages found in each. True?

I took the liberty of checking some different websites to get their opinions of who the two witnesses are. Out of approximately ten websites, no two were alike.

Here's what I got:
Moses & Elijah
Enoch & Elijah
House of Judah & House of Israel
OT & NT
The church
Jews of OT & Christians of NT

Though I didn't read each of their defenses for their positions, they did give plenty of Scriptural support.

Bottom line for me is it doesn't matter who or what the two witnesses are. Uppermost in my mind is trying to please God by living a good christian life, and spreading the gospel to as many people as I can while I can. I don't obsess about end times.

If Jesus is just "A god" doesn't that make Him a false god? T

No, a god--small g carries the meaning --has godlike qualities--because Gods power went through Jesus(Acts 2:22)
Angels were called godlike--Moses was called god--satan is called god of this system of things---none of them are the true almighty God. they have godlike qualities.( compared to mortals)

There is an alternative way to let that word remain, "God", and yet still not be declaring that Jesus himself was God. But the Word which defined Jesus' way of life in dependency upon God's Word, means that the Word definitely was God. Thus Jesus perfectly imaged the Father so that one with a bit of insight might well exclaim, "My Lord and my God!" In a figurative sense, we are what we eat. Jesus was the mirror to seeing God. The only one the world had so that they could, like peering through the rent veil of the temple, see God.

This is how John 1:1 was written------

In the beginning the Logos(word) was, and the word was with(Ho) Theos, and the word was Theos.

The only word in greek for God-or god--is Theos--Ho Theos is calling one--The God--Theos is not calling one The God so a small g applies.

Jesus teaches he has a God( John 20:17, Rev 3:12)--do you teach God has a God? you will have to if you think Jesus is God. And if God has a God then there is more than one God in your teaching.
Jesus is God.
