I thought the god of Islam was commonly considered omnipotent and at least to some extent benevolent (not omni-benevolent, but neither a complete ***); you think that you can unite with this being - you with your knowledge that they are in torment, god with his power to prevent that torment - and consider it 'hopeless'... What does that say of God's intent or the efficacy of this 'union'? Or is it only hopeless because after such a union, your amusement at the pain and suffering of others will be what is unified unto god.

To scoff at the damned.... This does not fill me with fear - because I do not believe it in the slightest likely, instead it fills me with sadness and disgust that my fellow humans might consider it desirable.

This pretentious sense of superiority is exactly the reason people hate practitioners of the Abrahamic religions. For someone who "never understood Islam", I was a much better representative of the faith then you are being right now with comments like that.

one notable sufi did argue, however, that the people of Hell will eventually learn to find their torment pleasurable. so if that were the case, laughing at them wouldnt be as bad.

If I was given a nonsensical offer like that, I'd assume it's a hallucination or dream of some sort rather than a transcendent universe-creating entity.
Besides, such an entity would know my decision before I made it.

Given that i find the conditions very childish, particularly the first two, i'd ask whether that god is imposing those conditions and can choose not to, or if they are perhaps something he/she can't help. If the answer is the first, i'd definitely pass. If he/she refuses to answer, i'd definitely pass. If the answer is that it's something this god can't help, i'd consider it, but will probably pass.

So, you are more interested in getting pass, rather than heaven. Never mind.
