Family Research Council shooting.

WASHINGTON—A man who volunteered at a gay-community center had a backpack full of Chick-fil-A sandwiches and a box of ammunition when he said "I don't like your politics" and shot a security guard at the headquarters of a conservative lobbying group, authorities said Thursday.

AP

The FBI is labeling this Domestic Terrorism. And today, a spokesman for the FRC basically blamed the Chik-Fil-E rhetoric and the Southern Poverty Law Center's classification of the FRC as a 'hate group'.

Personaly, I do agree in the FBI's classification. And least initially, it seems the shooters motivation was violence with the intent to intimidate, coerce, or influence policy.

What are your thoughts on this?

:(

Terrible news. It's absolutely a case of domestic terrorism. I hope he is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Question Everything
I think everyone is to blame for their own actions... who is filled with hate here? the guy shooting people? or the charity organization that helps families in need? hmmm

Unless it is in self-defense, shooting people is never the answer, and will not win anyone any friends. Did he really think acting like a crazy person would make people like his cause?

I trust that the FBI knows how to profile someone properly.

The link to the article is not working, by the way.

What's the difference between a domestic terrorist and a psychopathic shooter?

Come to think of it, it does seem that we throw the word "terrorist" around a bit to easily.

It seems to be more a case of responding to what one perceives as hate, with more hate.

I still believe the term is correctly applied. Per wiki:

According to a memo produced by the FBI's Terrorist Research and Analytical Center in 1994, domestic terrorism was defined as "the unlawful use of force or violence, committed by a group(s) of two or more individuals, against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives."

Source

It may not have been committed by a group of two or more individuals, but I find that to be the only discrepency.

So why was a guy who volunteered at a gay community center carrying a dozen or so Chick-fil-A sandwiches while he tried to shoot religious conservatives?

To drive home the political point he was making, though albeit poorly because in essence he supported the restaurant by spending money on those sandwiches.

Wonderful, you just know this is going to backfire against the whole community and that fundies and conservatives are going to play the martyr card and use this as a model to demonize the LGBTQ group and it's allies.

This idiots little stunt could easily send us back a few years in the fight for equality.

I'm glad the guard is okay and the perpetrator is in custody. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that this blows over rather than blowing up in our face.

Since the vast majority of the money went to materials, labor, & other overhead, I doubt that even
a whole penny was donated to anti-gay marriage causes. I wonder what became of the sandwiches?

I don't think we will have to stoop this low for this particular election. Obama can have the ditch all to himself seeing how he can't seem to get the Bush truck out of it for some reason. ;)

Nah, more of us conservatives are supporting gay rights every day. It's just the right thing to do. This is different times we live in, Liberals going on shooting sprees and all.
