How does Fox get away with so many lies? Is there some reason Fox remains for many a trusted news source despite the volume of lies it perpetrates? You decide.
The same reason the others get away with creative reporting.
Their audiences love it, & the advertisers pay.

Please demonstrate other news sources lie with the frequency of Fox. I've never heard anyone demonstrate that, so good luck.
I've never seen any frequency analysis regarding lies in news media.
Does this exculpate the others from lies, prevarications, omissions & spin?

Ahem...The daily Show isn't a news source...it's a comedy show and John Stewart isn't a journalist but a comedian.
Au contraire!
New Survey Reveals Why Jon Stewart is the Biggest Long Term Threat to Fox News
The newest Pew Research Center’s survey of where and how people get their news has been released, and while Fox News is still polling the oldest viewership, Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart are pulling the youngest. As Stewart educates his young viewers in the ways of FNC on a nightly basis, it is clear that he is the biggest long term media threat to Fox News.
The worldview of many young whippersnappers is formed by these guys.
Rush performs a similar function for other groups.

Stewart is not a journalist, his show is satire. Just because some recieve most of their political info from Stewart and Colbert doesn't make their shows...proper news show...it's satire and that's it.

Whereas Limbaugh the Hutt doesn't present himself as satire but as a serious social and political commentator.

I don't argue with that, but it doesn't stop it from functioning as a news show.

I'd never call it "proper" either.

Eons ago, when I could get Rush on the radio, I heard a whole lotta satire.
I miss the Environmental Updates & others.
(One had to endure the intervening tedious tirades though.)

The notion that other news shows -- or, for that matter, the John Stewart Show -- lie anywhere near as much as the Fox News Network looks to be the sort of lie Fox itself would tell. But for many people nowadays, truth is not important. They want only someone who agrees with them.

Without an objective study quantifying the lies of each, we're left with our individual impressions. I listen to NPR all day, & I sometimes now watch a little Fox & MSNBC (morbid curiosity). I don't know if the ubiquitous misinformation is intentional or accidental. (I suspect it's far & away the latter.) But I still get p****d off by it in spades from all. I prefer news aggregators, especially Drudge. Diversity of opinion & agenda relieve the pain.

Are news programmes not regulated in the USA.
If they are caught out in the UK, they have to give a retraction and correction at the same time of day as the original broadcast. and that is just for mistakes. Lies usually end up in a court.

News programmes must give a politically balanced view, or both opinions.

We might be even worse off if our gov't took such power upon themselves.

No. In the U.S., it's all about ratings, and that means entertainment, sensationalism and a focus on things that catch our short attention spans, regardless of what is and isn't actually important. Stuff like celebrity gossip and sports coverage overshadow the details of things that are actually relevant and important in the world.

The Government set up independent bodies with the industry to handle these things.
However all governments complain about the media bias, but the detail is not up to them. All parties keep detailed stats of air time and what was said... with so much checking one can be reasonably sure the system is as fair as it can be.

The American system rests on the apparently false premise that the media constitute a free marketplace of ideas -- a marketplace in which the truth will eventually win out over falsehoods. Yet, it seems that in reality the falsehoods told by the person or group with the greater power to propagate them win out. In other words, "repeat a lie often enough and people will believe it is true."

Are there really independent bodies?

News media is suppose to be self-regulating here. It is legal for them to lie.
