What are you eating?

I added a keeper to our recipe reservoir last night, Hearty Bean, Tomato and Sausage Soup! Yummy.

My hubby had a big scare in January - after waking up with chest pains and trouble breathing in the middle of the night - he received 5 stents in his coronary arteries. He was on the brink of a massive heart attack.

Needless to say, we are revamping our lifestyle somewhat which includes the diet. We were not terrible eaters before, but now there is added emphasis to eat right. (and exercise).

The soup was in a magazine article about heart healthy foods. Anyone here have some awesome heart healthy recipes?

I wish I did, but no... I just made blueberry pie as I'm typing! :D

I made some palak paneer sauce and mixed it with pasta... and for a drink, I had blueberries and milk blended with chocolate protein shake mix. Delicious~! :D

I just bought Quinoa for the first time. I was going to have some stir-fried veggies with it. Any other suggestions/recipes? This will be a staple in our new heart-healthy diet. I also bought some couscous.

I think quinoa is best cooked like rice... It's the most delicious that way. Although I have made quinoa porridge (which takes about 45 bloody minutes to make; I used to make for my health-conscious ex-boyfriend), it tastes best as a grain.

Enjoy! If I could afford quinoa all the time, I would buy and eat it. :D It has all your amino acids, iron, niacin, protein, etc. The healthiest of all the grains, that it was called the Mother Grain by the ancient peoples of the Americas.

Hubby and I had stir-fried veggies with quinoa with tomatoes and green onions as a garnish. It was wonderful!

I had heard about its health benefits and now I am pleased to have widened our culinary knowledge a bit and can't wait to keep experimenting.

RFG, have you tried edamame? I love them as a snack with a little added salt. They are very good for you, too.

Yes... I have had edamame, and I'm sick of it, lol. Here in British Columbia, we have a big sushi craze here, and edamame is part of the sushi culture that is cultivated here.

It's okay, but I prefer dried pea snacks. :D

I love quinoa! It's super easy to cook, even easier than rice and it's amazing how much food one cup produces. I usually stir fry it with some veggies, and then add some pasta sauce. Pesto and Rosa sauces go well. Bacon too.

Oh, and word of warning. The cooked grain looks like there's some tiny larva curled up inside of it; these will often detach as well, so your bowl may appear to have a lot of tiny maggots. This is normal. Your box was not contaminated.
