Is the Bible true

Are there still people who believe that every word of the Bible is literally true and is God's absolute word to be followed and obeyed?

My answers would be:

No, not completely, though it contains truth.

and

Yes, there are people who believe that.

Yes there are.

Though I have yet to meet one who actually practices what they preach.

What Mestemia said.

My brother is one of them. It's a shame, he wasn't always a fundie. He wasn't even religious..
I have a brother who is a King James Onlyist.

He refuses to talk to me about religion.

Yes. There are also people who believe the earth is flat and the moon-landings were a hoax.

People believe all types of crazy things.

LOL! Nice going. :D

My brother isn't there, yet. He won't talk about Yahweh with me, but he will preach to me about Jesus, since I like Jesus' message. Unfortunately I don't like his interpretation of Jesus.

I'm pretty kind with him, though, especially since if he loses his faith he'll probably lose his wife and access to his children, too. Yep, she's that much of a *****. (Sorry bro!)

Do you mean to say in your post that those who believe in the bible are crazy? If so, please define crazy for me and explain the process you went through to determine what you say is true.

I agree the percentage of people that believe this might be small, but I am not prepared to call them crazy myself, just maybe misguided and in need of some patience, but I doubt the majority of them can be called crazy.

So to you, believing in a crazy thing makes one crazy?

Interesting.

It is crazy to take a book written thousands of years ago by primitive Middle Eastern people literal, quite as crazy as if I were to start claiming the Egyptian myths all literally happened.

You don't have to be crazy to believe something crazy. For example, some people think if they teach creationists scientific facts about evolution, then they might accept evolutionary theory as fact. This is a crazy belief, as creationists are not concerned with facts - yet those who think they can teach them are not crazy. They are simply misguided - albeit, probably not for long.

How did you arrive at that idea. I didn't say that.

I think crazy is something that is permanent. Crazies are crazy, whether they read the bible and believe it, or believe that pink unicorns are naturally occurring. There are many like myself that might believe the bible for a certain reason, or if not believe in it, be drawn to it for whatever reason. I am not crazy cause I can walk away from it if I find it to be untrue. Which large parts seem to be untrue scientifically.

There is a difference.

Do you think the Bible should be read entirely literally, as though it was without error?

You'll know "True" when you are crying out in total agony because you are burning in the everlasting flame that is Hell for all eternity, but by then it will be too late for you.

Your weak pathetic threats are useless against me.
I am immune to your imaginary friend and all the above shown "love" he has for me.

If we think of 2,000 years from now, people will look at our engineering books, and mathematics books and it is hard for you and I to imagine they might look at these books we write today and call them fantasy. We don't know what it will be like 2,000 years from now.

The things is, those that lived 2,000 years ago thought they were probably writing truth but it seems to be slowly fading from society today, and it shouldn't be so much a surprise when people look to it for truth. Not everyone studies so deeply in their life today to research things they believe in. Most people are good people, just trying to live their life, and believe what they were taught.

These people might be crazy if they couldn't change their views, but I have not met anyone like that. Maybe a handful, but not many.
