Shouldn't Nudity be Encouraged?

Maybe you are more likely to be a nudist if you have a better body image so being a nudist is the result not the cause of the good body image.

You are right about the entertainment industry, even the perfect people have to be touched up and made look flawless, and the obvious plastic surgery is not appealing, it is getting completely out of hand, someone once said the obsession with physical beauty was the sign of a society in decline.

I don't personally have a problem with encouraging nudity, but in general you have all these various religious taboos to contend with that create some significant issues with the concept.

Since I come from "sunny" England I would argue that public nudity should not be encouraged for health reasons ;)

However I do believe that people should be taught that nudity and sexuality is perfectly natural and not something to be ashamed of. I also agree with you that the fashion industry has had catastrophic effects on the self image of the general public, but I would argue that simply promoting nudity would not help to remedy this. Instead I think that people of all shapes and sizes should be promoted as beautiful by the media and by fashion companies. People should be encouraged to look for their own attractive elements and to feel good about them.

Since several studies have found that nudists have better body images than non-nudists, shouldn't nudity be encouraged as a counter to the fashion and entertainment industry's demeaning body propaganda?

No. Clothing is of too much protective and expressive value.

We can counter the fashion and entertainment industry by... you know, actually countering them. We shape what they produce, we just need to stop being morons.

Good luck with getting the fashion and entertainment industries to change their tunes!

I think you'll have better luck taking matters into your own hands by getting nude than you will have by waiting for the fashion and entertainment industries to reform themselves.

You're right there, they aren't going to change. I'm speaking from an idealistic viewpoint here by saying that they should change :)

I have no problem with nudity myself, but I prefer to stay warm without spending a packet on central heating bills.

I dont now..where would the trill come from at seeing a naked body?

And naked or not ...people would still have body image problems ..I would think.

It could be the studies that nudist have better body images is why they became nudist in the first place. Not the cause of it.

Studies show that nudists have fewer body image problems than non-nudists.

If that were true, then I would not have seen people's body-image and self-esteem improve upon their becoming nudists. But I believe I have seen that happen. Consequently, I cannot believe your point has any merit.

I think before we go nude we would have to work for a lot longer to take the voodo stigma off of sex.People equate nudity with sex.

Its not that important to me to be nude.I like to sleep nude..and sometimes I take it all off and hot tub with my sisters and mother. It is liberating..But a lot of that to is the elemement of danger. We think we are "progressive"!

Well then that awesome for them..Any improvement on body image is or should be a great thing.I will also add though that people who wear clothes can also have a great body image. And it can be improved even further with a beautiful garment of clothing.

For some clothing is like an expression ..it can reflect a mood or even improve a mood.

So I guess their are all types.

I have no body image problem with my feet..I like my feet..But I feel really sexy and I like my feet even more in a pair of sexy shoes!

That's nice, Dallas, but studies consistently show that nudists have better body-images than non-nudists. Especially, female nudists.
