Why not "God's Army" or "God's Army II -- States of Grace"?
Ah, yeah I forgot about those. I really liked States of Grace, I'ld put them at the top of any independent film list, along with Brigham CIty.

Anything Richard Dutcher does seems to be good, will add them to the opening post list.

I absolutely loved "States of Grace." It was just too incredible for words. "Saints and Soldiers" was great, too. But you already mentioned it, and "The Best Two Years" really cracked me up. The way the new Elder mulilated Dutch was just hilarious.

Yeah, I agree, very emotional film and accurate.

Yeah, I got the title wrong though in the opening post, couldn't think of it, I put "Saints at War" :) .
"The Best Two Years" really cracked me up. The way the new Elder mulilated Dutch was just hilarious.
Also a very moving film with some silly stuff as well.

Johnny Lingo (Is that what it's called? I haven't actually seen it.)
Ah, yeah, forgot about that one too. I really liked that one and I also forgot to mention "The Other Side of Heaven" another really great LDS film, will add them to the list.

Wasn't Ducher going to make a Joseph Smith movie? Whatever happened to that?
Maybe you hadn't heard Dutcher's "Parting Words." Reading this really, really, really upset me, since I think he had done more for Mormon cinema than anybody around. I really wish I knew the whole scoop or if there have been any changes since this article came out.

Interesting. Thanks for the article. I agree with him 100%.

I can only hope the "Authorities" didn't come down on him.
I don't think so, if anything it would be LDS members hounding him to no end.

He did a great job on all his films. Satan's just trying to shut him up because he's a threat to his work.

Richard knows what he's doing, he'll be back, but I don't think he's really leaving the film industry, just the church for a while.

Will watch for his next two films mentioned in the article, "Falling" and "Evil Angel".

Ah, that reminds me, Richard Paul Evans wrote "The Christmas Box". You may recognize the title, it was constantly advertised in between conference about 6 or 7 years ago.

Richard was in one of my past wards and I was assigned to be one of his home teachers. We never did visit with him in his home, he was constantly out of town doing book tours and other promotions and when he was home on Sunday, he seemed like he just wanted his space and time with his family, which is much more important than any home teaching visit. Sunday was practically the only day he was ever home, if even that, so we only asked to visit him once and he said he'd rather not visit because he was so tired. I totally agreed and we never bothered to ask him to visit again. He was way too busy, besides we could talk to him at church :). He had a publisher who kept him on his toes, he said he always had a deadline in which he needed to finish the next book and he said he was always behind. He's written quite a few books now.

Richard also taught our Elder's quorum, but again I was in the Young Mens Presidency so never heard him teach, but he got up in fast and testimony meeting a couple of times and told of his "mission" in life, which would involve touching millions of lives, which was part of his patriarchal blessing.

He has made two of his books into movies, "The Christmas Box," starring Richard Thomas, and a sequel called "Timepiece," with James Earl Jones.

Will look up these two movies and post them, they are definitely worth seeing.
