Satan: A Child of God?

Aasimar

Atheist
So you don't think Satan exists either?

That's exactly what Satan wants us to believe.

2 Nephi 28: 22
And behold, others he (Satan) flattereth away, and telleth them there is no hell; and he saith unto them: I am no devil, for there is none—and thus he whispereth in their ears, until he grasps them with his awful chains, from whence there is no deliverance.

Oh no, FEAR TACTICS!

I agree that fear tactics are futile. However, describing our beliefs should not result in mocking either. As an atheist obviously the concept of God is in opposition to your beliefs, as would the concept of his abilty to create. This leaves you with the limited but obvious statement of "No none of that stuff is real"

Satan was a creation by God meant for good and designed to lead his hierarchy of angels. His arrongance against the might and will of God lead to him being cast from heaven where he started to build an army with the sole purpose of vengeance against his creator.

Satan doesn't make any sense at all, even if you accept God. Being all powerful doesn't leave room for an adversary. It just doesn't work.

I totally agree, satan , is like other religious myths, in that to gain more believers, a "boogey-man" story was needed.

My favorite quote about this come from the movie "Constantine" the heroine of the film says "Yeah, well i don't believe in the devil" and Keanu Reeves says "Why not? because he believes in you."

that and the verse from Nephi both stuck out to me and my wife. i think that's what got her extremely interested in the Book of Mormon.

What if Satan isn't God's adversary, but ours?

Exactly, he knows he has no power over God, or anyone with a physical body. as a matter of fact Cain will have power over the devil in outerdarkness because he will have gained a physical body. He is not God's Adversary, he is our adversary. just as Jesus Christ is our Advocate.

I know i just mentioned constantine but here's another refrence. and it's the bit about how there are demons and angels around us but all they can do is whisper in your ear and tempt you into doing things for the good or for the bad because they cannot physically interfere.

Seriously that had to be the best representation of the Devil i have ever seen in a movie.

That's not doctrine!

It's Hollywood, the evil, Satan-filled place! I mean, a general authority NEVER said anything like that. Maybe you are just 'butthurt' they never had and that's why you had to go to a movie to get it.

I just pulled this out of one of michel's posts on another thread. I thought it would be fun to discuss.

There is no biblical basis for Satan being anything other than an angel.

Becky, even I'm going to have to call you out on this one. Your post gives credibility to maddy's frequent claim that you post just to argue with him. I think it's a perfectly valid quote. Basically, it's the same as one of my favorite quotes from City of Angels. Meg Ryan tells Nick Cage she doesn't "believe in that," to which he said, "Just because you don't believe in something doesn't mean it's not true."

The best Satan HAS to be the South Park Satan. I love the gay relationship with Saddam...

And on a probability scale, just about as believable.
